Richard III, the last Plantagenet King of England ruled for two years from 1483 to 1485. His short reign was marked by controversy, rebellion and challenges to his throne which led to his death at the Battle of Bosworth aged 33 years of age. Find out about his early life as his brother, Edward IV struggled for the throne of England with Henry VI; see arms and armour from his reign and enjoy multimedia presentations about the key battles of the Wars of the Roses. Children can get involved in our special medieval camp featuring the gruesome bits Richard's history provided by 'Horrible Histories' author, Terry Deary.

A small museum but the ticket is also valid for the Henry VII experience so £5 for 2 experiences is pretty good. There are also other ticket options that work out at great value! The exhibits & storyboards are really interesting & the 30 minute...More

We were very disappointed to find that there are only a few information boards around the rooms, replicas of items (not many), a video in the top room lasting 30 mins, and a video about the finding of Richard III's body but this is in...More

I found visting this a bit depressing it really did seem to concentrate on the more grizzly parts of richard reign . OK there were a lot of people killed on both sides but it really seems that these battles are all people remember. Would...More

We were a bit disappointed by the Richard III Experience at Monk Bar as there wasn't as much information on him as we expected with much of the focus being the Plantagenet line and the civil war. The most interesting thing was the video about...More

A lovely little museum set in Monk Bar. A steep narrow staircase takes you to the museum on the right or onto the wall to the left, (only open in good weather). The museum is set over three floors, steep steps, and tells the history...More

Bit of a Richard III nerd so this was on my to-do list whilst in York. Based in Monk bar, it’s split over two floors and gives information on Richard, his life as a youth, a King’s brother and then a King himself, and then...More

We came upon this museum while looking for the city wall walk and indeed that’s where it is. A word of warning - it does involve several narrow flights of stairs. The top floor of the exhibition centres around a very informative video about the...More

Interesting exhibit, but left us wanting more. Too short, too small. Takes about 1/2 hour to complete
