The Shambles is a pedestrian only area, so you don’t have to worry about having to dodge traffic. This is York’s oldest street going back to medieval times and you can actually see where the tops of the houses on each side of the street...More

The old english meaning of the shambles is a place where Meat is sold, I saw one butchers shop the rest were gift shops. Who wants to buy models of London Buses, Big Ben and Red piller boxes in York.. what a shambles

Beautiful street and some quirky little shops, worth a visit whilst in York. Few Harry Potter shops there also if your into Harry Potter.

The shambles in York one of the best loved streets in the u.k. Time really does seem to have stood still here, if only these buildings could talk! This started off being a little street of butcher's shops and now there is only one butchers...More

The Shambles was brilliant so interesting especially if you love all things Potter. The buildings are amazing and so many nooks and crannies. Loved it.

York city centre is fairly small so the Shambles and all the other surrounding streets are easy to find and navigate. Interesting and very tempting shops, pubs and restaurants everywhere.

What an amazing street to visit and soak up Britain’s past, who had previously lived and worked here. Just to stand and gaze up the long, narrow street is like looking into history. Beautiful. The variety of shops is brill and fit the ambience of...More

Lovely historic lane in the centre of York. It has retained its qaintness and quirkiness and has some lovely shops, cafes and a small bar. Built for the local butchers historically hence it's narrowness to keep the meat out if the sun. Felt really christmasy...More

Disappointed this time. Shop selling London themed goods and too many Harry Potter themed shops in close proximity. Also some stalls on the market were a bit cheap and nasty which let things down. Scaffolding up but appreciate that work has to be done. More...More

Interesting medieval street but difficult to fully appreciate because of the crowds. Better choices of shops elsewhere in York but the market has interesting stalls

A number of the shops have step free entrances. That said, shops are small and the narrow cobbled street can be difficult to navigate.

There is Gert & Henry's which is closest to the Shambles, also The Blue Boar (where Dick Turpins body was laid to rest in the cellar, you can eat your dinner in the cellar) and Slug & Lettuce near the bridge is very quirky.
