This was probably the highlight of our trip, the gardens are lovely in summer and big enough to not feel overcrowded, even when it's busy. With lovely old buildings and the observatory within the grounds, it's a really great place.

You must go here. Right beside York minster. Had a fantastic ice cream as we went in and wandered round the well kept gardens. So much to see. At Mary's abbey was the highlight.

A haven for a quiet lunch picnic or relaxing in the sun to people watch away from the crowded streets. You can also sit by the riverside and watch boats.

Well maintained gardens housing the Yorkshire Museum and ruins of St Mary's Abbey. Look out for the roman Tower too. Great place for a picnic. Peacocks and squirrels around..

A great place to escape the bustle of the city centre. Today there were Birds of Prey that could (for a fee) be held. Make sure you walk round the full gardens, particularly the abbey ruins.
