The Settle-Carlisle Railway is one of the world's great rail journeys. It carves its way through the magnificent landscape of the Yorkshire Dales and then descends to Cumbria's lush green Eden Valley with its views of the Pennines and Lakeland Fells. A seven day a week service of diesel sprinter units gives travellers plenty of choice of when to travel, and the opportunity to board and leave the train at many of the beautifully preserved stations along the route. Customers can also expect a refreshment trolley service on many of the trains.

We parked at Settle railway station, £2.00 for all day was very reasonable. This was our first trip on the Settle to Carlisle railway and was very enjoyable. Scenery is stunning, even though on Friday the 13th of July it actually rained! This didn't stop...More

One of the real classic train journeys. The northern train is clean and comfortable and travels through some incredible scenery. An hour and a half approximate journey time and some time in Settle and Carlisle makes a relaxing day out.

Well worth a visit if you are in the area. This is one of those well known railway lines and the station is interesting to look around with some informative boards to read.

Go to the uk steam website for information on all steam trains and their operators. These are all charter trains and you have to book with the relevant operator. The normal main line service operates daily.

Steam trains operate as special excursions rather than for everyday travel. Check out the settle-carlisle website for lots of information about travel from Skipton to Carlisle
