I’ve walked down Pickfords Lane between the Golden Hinde and Clink Street many times without giving the ruins I pass much more than a quick glance! During our last visit to this part of the South Bank we took sometime to have a proper look...More

It is easy to miss this - as you walk along Clink Street from the Golden Hinde you'll see the remains of one wall of (I believe) a 12th palace, including the upper floor ornate stone window frame. The adjacent modern buildings have literally been...More

So OK, there is little left of this 12th Century Bishops Palace but luckily enough survived to give us today an idea of the Magnificence of it and to appreciate that it somehow survived to modern times. Well worth a quick look & admiration !...More

Keep an eye out for these ruins. There isn't much, but well worth a few minutes taking in part of London's amazing history.

As others have mentioned, these ruins are easy to miss. It is really just one standing wall and some ground ruins. There is a plaque describing the palace history. There is construction around the area but it looks like they will preserve the ruins.

And I'm sure that we have done so in the past. There is not that much to see, but it's worth taking some time out to read about the history. It's especially good to see that these ruins have been well preserved given the extensive...More

These ruins are right next door to a Pret a Manger and near the Golden Hind. The stonework of the rose window has been restored and there are nice plants in the ruins making a little garden but you cannot go inside only look from...More

This is the ruins of the Winchester Palace, home of the Bishop of Winchester, built in the early 13th century. The rose window is quite special. We stopped by to take a picture of this part of the medieval England

Even before the arrival of the instantly iconic Shard,
