The area
Address
Neighbourhood: Westminster
If you only had an afternoon to experience London on a grand scale, Westminster would be a wise place to start. The ornate Houses of Parliament and Westminster Abbey sit adjacent at a corner of Parliament Square, and a short stroll along The Mall leads to Buckingham Palace. Trafalgar Square and Nelson's Column are just up the road as well. As captivating as the architecture is, the wonders of Mother Nature are highlights of the area too. St James's Park (arguably London's loveliest), the expansive Green Park, and pedestrian friendly tree lined paths along the river showcase the exquisite manicure provided by English gardeners. Just beyond the landmarks and the gorgeous outdoor spaces, quiet residential squares and age old local pubs offer a more subdued take on this global seat of power in the heart of London.

We had a look around the Queen Victoria Memorial Fountain whilst visiting London. It is right at the end of The Mall directly in front of the palace. The memorial is huge and well detailed. People have thrown coins in the water and I think they've been there ages as the area around them has discoloured. Surprised they've not been pinched! It is very busy around the memorial and a lot of people sit on it so prepare to wait for photos etc.

PROS
* Strikingly and historically important memorial
* Strategically placed in front of Buckingham Palace
* Many interesting sculptures and statues- all very symbolic

CONS
* Crowded- there are always crowds
* Very close to busy vehicular traffic

"I VISITED THIS PLACE"...
... because it is there- one can't go to London without seeing Buckingham Palace and this is directly in front of it. I analyzed and studied all the sculptures and statues from the bottom to the top. I also watched the people who were there.

WS IT WORTH THE COST?
It was free

WOULD "I VISIT THIS PLACE" AGAIN?
Yes

ADVICE
Go and visit, but beware of the crowds and the traffic

This is quite a grand monument. As you come down and reach Buckingham Palace it’s very grand. You can walk to it through an opening.

Worth taking a walk around the Victoria memorial and Buckingham palace gates. You can then walk around the palace gardens and see all the sights around. We walked down from Victoria bus station

While staying a few days nearby we had plenty of opportunity to view this amazing memorial to a great monarch.
Standing in front of the Palace it cannot be missed and must be one of the most visited and photographed memorials in the world, a must see when in London

We saw this huge memorial across the Buckingham Palace gates. This is also the best place to see the changing of the guards. Queen Victoria was the longest reigning monarch of Britain until Queen Elizabeth II. The Victoria Memorial is made of Marble. It was designed by Sir Thomas Brock to pay homage to the Queen who died in 1901. It is an impressive monument. It is 86 feet high. You can see the Queen’s statue in the middle. It is surrounded by statues of figures symbolising courage, charity, constancy, motherhood, truth and victory. Behind this monument you can see the Queen Victoria Memorial Garden. This memorial gives a wonderful backdrop to the tourist photos.

Queen Victoria Memorial is a huge monument in front of Buckingham Palace. Designed in 1901, it was unveiled in 1911, though it was not completed until 1924.
Worth visiting!

A stunning memorial topped with a gilded statue pay tribute to Queen Victoria. This large memorial is directly in from of Buckingham Palace and the Canada Gate and cannot be missed. While not as interesting as some of the public sculpture in Italy, it is tastefully carved with a fair amount of interesting detail.
