Overview
More
St Martin-in-the-Fields is a landmark. Its fine Georgian architecture and prominent location place it at the heart of the nation. Its work has valued historic tradition, but St Martin’s has always been innovative in response to changing needs. From London’s first free lending library to the first religious broadcast, St Martin’s has broken new ground in defining what it means to be a church. Solidifying its position for years to come, St Martin's has an award-winning cafe, puts on concerts with London's best musicians, and hosts fantastic events in its unique subterranean spaces. Free lunchtime concerts take place every Monday, Tuesday and Friday, a fantastic way to hear both established and emerging stars of the classical scene. As well as the fantastic food on offer in the Cafe in the Crypt, during the summer months St Martin's opens the Cafe in the Courtyard, offering a host of al fresco delights.

We enjoyed the string orchestra with oboe. Good acoustics. Bought the tickets on line the night before. Some seats were vacant. All young musicians. Orchestra is on the same level as the audience. Bring a cushion of you are skinny. No problem for mobility challenged.

With all the traffic flying past outside this is a wonderful fortress of solitude slap bang in the middle of London. A large, yet peaceful cafe area downstairs in the crypt which seems wonderfully civilised and also a tiny chapel beneath the main church too.

The historic church of St. Martin in the fileds is one of my favourites in London, and somewhere to which I return time and time again. It is a graceful building fronting Trafalgar square. The small and simple interior disguised by a large and fancy...More

Had a delightful and delicious afternoon tea in the Crypt at St. Martin's. Yummy salmon finger sandwiches, scones with clotted cream and jam and cakes. Recommend doing this if you want a genuine afternoon English Tea experience.

The church is of course beautiful and interesting. You can see history everywhere in London but especially in their churches. I consider churches "free" museums.

In view of Trafalgar Square this famous Church has a stunningly beautiful interior and has a wonderful cafe in the atmospheric crypt plus a large gift shop. Very useful for a rest and sit down during a busy day of sightseeing!

The church is lovely, but even better it offers free mid-day concerts. If you are touring the sights near Trafalgar Square, be sure to check the concert schedule. We were lucky enough to hear a virtuoso piano performance by a young musician with a great...More

You might have come across this church as they use it sometimes for the morning service on Sunday on BBC Radio 4. It's a beautiful Georgian church and they have some wonderful concerts in here. The acoustic is stunning.

This superb building is set just past trafalger square. It has a cafe in the crypt and runs a charity for the homeless.

When you click on "book tickets", a rough seating plan will come up. Then look for a box that says something about a detailed seating plan. Click it. The same rough plan will appear, however if you click on the area of... More

No seating plan as far as I saw: first come, first served. So I agree with David F. Note that the voluntary donation is best given at the end of the concert on the way out - not at the beginning otherwise you can get a... More
