Neighbourhood: Bloomsbury
Snuggly nestled within Central London is academic and leafy Bloomsbury, an area that boasts walking distance access to many of London's most popular attractions. It is also home to some of Britain's most celebrated museums, including the must-see British Museum. Despite an understandable popularity with students, tourists and day trippers, vast sections of Bloomsbury retain a quiet, residential feel year round and throughout the week.

PROS
* Pleasant leafy park which is green
* Perfectly square area
* Pleasant for bag lunch
* Adjacent to British Museum

CONS
Crowded

"I VISITED THIS PLACE"...
... when walking from my arrival at St. Pancras International Station to my first stop, the British Museum, and then when I finished, I walked past it on my way to Rusell Street Underground Station.

The park seemed pleasant enough- very active with children playing and workers sitting on the benches having lunch.

WAS IT WORTH THE COST?
It's free

WOULD "I VISIT THIS PLACE" AGAIN?
Sure after my next visit to the British Museum

ADVICES
* It's pleasant enough to visit if and when going to the British Museum and entering from the back of the building.
* It is not necessary to seek it out for its own tourist value: it doesn't have any yo me at least

Russell Square is near the British museum and is a pleasant leafy part of London. Nice place to get away from the bustle of the larger roads.

Every square in London has interesting historical connections. Russell is the family name of the Dukes of Bedford, who owned the land. The 5th Duke has his statue on the south side. Humphry Repton (1752-1818), Britain's foremost landscape designer of the period, was commissioned to design and plant Russell Square as a private garden.

Charles Fitzroy Doll (1850-1929) designed the Hotel Russell to the north east of Russell Square on the site of eight original houses in Southampton Terrace. Doll's restaurant in the hotel was the inspiration for the first class restaurant of the Titanic. Later, Doll was asked to smarten up the Georgian house facades in Russell Square with his terracotta ornamentation. This gave rise to the expression "dolled up".

See what I mean? And it is a genuinely nice place to go (and the cafe is good too!).

We accidentally ended up here after taking a wrong turn. Lovely gardens though, even in December. Nice little cafe in the middle too

Russell Square is close to Euston Station and it’s rammed with all sorts of hotels and hostels . The gardens at Russell Square are ok but a lot of vagrants.

We have eaten here several times when visiting the museum, It is pleasant to sit in the shade of the trees whilst eating decent home cooked italian food. The family running it are always chatty and friendly.

We visited Russel Square on a sunny Saturday morning. The square, which dates from 1804, has a café (Caffe Tropea), a water fountain and seemed to be popular with people have wedding photos taken. So nice we could have spent hours just relaxing here, but we were on our way to The British Museum just a short distance away.

We came to sit in these gardens. They are lovely with many amazing trees, plenty of benches, a small fountain and a decent cafe.
