Went on a short cruise around the lake as part of our group holiday. Very beautiful. Unfortunately could not hear any of the commentary or history provided over the loud speakers and the lower deck wasn’t even full of people.

Mere means Lake. Windermere is the largest lake in England. There is no better way to see the lake then to take a cruise. I enjoyed the cruise very much.

A tourist once asked me the above question when visiting Bowness. It is true that for many people this IS the Lake District, but there is so much more. It is a shame that most only ever see the 100 yards of shoreline between the...More

We visited the lake on 17th May 2018. It is very touristy but a trip on the lake in one of the pleasure cruisers is very worthwhile. Fantastic scenery and a good location to observe water birds.

Scenery magnificent what else is there to say, just beautiful with breath taking views and walks. The pubs are friendly and plentiful but can be pricey. Book accommodation before you get here because most of the B&Bs were full. As a tip ask the locals...More

On of the best things to do in the lake district is go.on a Windermere cruise for several hours. Despite the boat being busy if you find a good seat sit back and enjoy the lake district scenery

I agree with Mark B. However please be aware that Windermere Town And Station are 1- 1.5 miles from Lake Windermere. The nearest access point on the Lake to the station is Bowness on Windermere.

The best place to go with a wheelchair is around the lake at the Amberside end also at bowmess on the share line. You can also go on the steamers.
