We walk round the lake which is flat and takes a few hours depending on fitness. You can stop in the Lordore Falls hotel part way around or in the Chalet tearooms in Portinscale for a drink, avoid the hotel in Portinscale! We take a...More

We were staying at the Mary Mount Hotel in Borrowdale and walked around Derwent Water, stopping en route in Hope Garden Cafe @ Keswick. It was a beautiful day.

This was the second time I’ve ever been to the Lake District and the first time visiting Derwentwater - it’s a beautiful lake, I recommend walking up the Castlehead view point for an awesome view.

Probably ranks at the top of my list of scenic, healthy vacations. Engendered a sense of freedom and exhilaration.

We decided to do the circular walk around the lake which is approx 10 miles. Very enjoyable with lots of photo opportunities. We diverted to do the Cat Balls climb, another 2 miles. Lovely views across the lake as you would expect. Rather like a...More

This is a lovely walk around the perimeter of Derwentwater which does not feel as long as the route says (10 miles). With some parts through woodland and others along the water line, it is suitable for most people. If the water level is high,...More
