This is a great road to go up or down. You should not be a nervous driver if you attempt this drive but it is well worth the effort as you get fabulous views. It can be narrow in places but you can easily negotiate...More

For me who is not great with steep roads this road was not my choice! Hubby was driving and coming from Buttermere the road is very scenic, I loved the wiggly look of the road between the fells. It didn’t get steep until close to...More

We took the B5289 as part of our route to the hotel we were staying at in Buttermere. The roads are mainly single track with the odd passing place and prolonged steep hills. My 140bhp 1.8 Toyota even felt a little out of its comfort...More

I was a little unsure about this as it’s just a road but I was mistaken. This drive was fantastic! All I can say is drive it and discover it for yourself. I’d happily drive it again even with the nagging kids in the back.

A brilliant drive. Provided you can reverse when needed and get tight to edge and watch for passing places then you will be fine

Wonderful drive on this road takes you to Derwentwater and then to the Honister Pass and mines (take the tour its worth it) and then thru Whinlatter Forest Park. Plenty to do and yes - vegetarian options available at the last place.
