Although we visited in the pouring rain we enjoyed our visit. The house is very interesting although only a few rooms open to the public, and the information about Ruskin fascinating. Probably more worthwhile to visit when you can take full advantage of the garden....More

A small but interesting house. Only three or four rooms are open to the public but they are well-resented with Ruskin memorabilia. Some of the labelling is a bit scanty, but the video presentation Is well worth seeing before you look round. The usual gift...More

I did not know much about John Ruskin when I came here but the information at the house is enough for an introduction. He was an important 19th century art critic and pre-raphaelite enthusiast. The house is not large but in a stunning setting overlooking...More

On a bright, sunny morning we ventured to Brantwood, the fascinating home of John Ruskin, famous writer, artist and social reformer 1872-1900. Standing in a 250 acre estate on the edge of Lake Coniston it was a remarkable location with far reaching views. The house...More

House ok, but not many rooms to look at. Cafe an absolute rip off. £12.30 for tea and 2 pieces of chocolate brownie and very slow service. Yet more examples of tourists being ripped off in the lakes.

Parked in car park, trouble with scooter on steep slope, a wheelchair was provided to enable me to see most of the ground floor, fabulous views from the house.

Half a day if you eat in the cafe and look around the house. The views are so good and the staff are so nice, you might want to stay all day!
