Group of 7 of us (ranging from 8 to 52 years of age) spent the day walking up to and then down the Old Man. Terrific weather for an autumn day gave us wonderful views. It can be hard on the legs of the out-of-practice...More

Definitely start your hike by parking at the end of Walna Scar Road at the end of Station Road in Coniston. This car park is pretty rough if you have park higher up so it might help if passengers could get out of your car...More

Amazing views - enjoyed the challenge of the walk up but the way down was hard. I think I am fairly fit, three classes a week, but it was a challenge! Teenage sons loved it though!

From Walna Scar car park and then using the direct route up via the disused mines route it took me a couple of hours going up and a little less coming back. There are many routes both up and down.
