While on holiday we booked a tour to this national trust property. It is only open on a tuesday by guided tour only and is free for members or 4 pounds for others. It was around an hour and a half and so very interesting....More

Shame after quite a walk here we couldn't actually go inside. They only do limited tours of the inside. Sadly we only got to view this from outside.

Although many parts of the fort are derelict, our National Trust volunteers gave us a very good tour of what is gradually being painstakingly restored along with the interesting history that goes with it. This is a fascinating place but there us only one tour...More

I'm not someone who likes military history, nor am I someone who is a Palmerston Fort fanatic (I only just know he was a Prime Minister (I think!) and I didn't really know he built forts until this tour. I am just a National Trust...More

The fort is owned by the National Trust, and tours, which have to be pre booked, only take place on Tuesdays. Victorian military installations are, admittedly, something of a niche interest, but fascinating to learn how they came to be built in the 19th century...More

01983741020 is the number for the national Trust Isle of Wight. They can book a tour for you. Must be done in advance
