Called in having left work early to visit the home of Bernard and Charlotte Shaw, and managed to see it between 4-5pm before it closed. The NT property is set off the beaten track in the village but is well signposted. As others have said...More

The National Trust has preserved Shaw's home in all its original glory, although one can see that it was not a luxurious home, but you can get a feeling of how they lived. I was disappointed in the garden on arrival as it needed some...More

Off the beaten track this well cared for Edwardian house and gardens are a treat. Originally Shaw’s holiday home it is surrounded by quiet Hertfordshire countryside. The house is full of Shaw’s paintings and books as well as the usual paraphernalia of an early 20th...More

An unsolved puzzle. Why does every room downstairs have a door to the garden? Fantastic house with many stories and insight into Shaw, his wife and their life.

We decided to travel on way back from holiday. It is only 5-10 minutes off the main road A1M - from memory. A very small car park. Certainly not the biggest national trust property you will visit, but definitely one of the most interesting. Neat,...More

Tucked away down narrow Hertfordshire country lanes is Shaw's corner, George Bernard Shaw's house. The property and garden doesn't open until mid day which we hadn't realised. We arrived a little earlier and parked up waiting for the place to open. Staff and volunteers were...More

We were driving from East Anglia to Sussex and decided to break our journey here. Interesting place, giving a glimpse of the man behind the gruff exterior and witty remarks. For example, the walls are adorned with images of GBS. Was he really so vain?...More

Went Saturday 9th June 2018 as Ayot St Lawrence had an art and beer festival on. This house and gardens is not worth a special trip out, it has a very nice garden and the house has some interest but there are far better attractions...More

We thoroughly enjoyed this little gem. The house was so lived in. Lots of fascinating Information by the knowledgeable guides. The little lanes around Shaws corner meant no traffic noise, and with no aircraft, just birdsong to accompany our walk around the garden it is...More

You really need navigation to get there. It is complicated with lots of narrow back and side roads.
