What an incredible history is contained in these ruins! Room by room and wing by wing, Henri de Blois built this into a huge and impressive castle. There is some signage, but more would really help us to learn in depth what was going on...More

A surprisingly large and interesting historical site that helps you to imagine what a massive and important place Winchester was. Rooted in the Roman period and on, it continually delights with new finds and stories.

Visited in passing, an old ruin but full of history - just wot it up. It is a larger site and near to the centre of the city

It took us some time to find as the tourist information map is a bit confusing but once we got there we found it fascinating

This is the biggest ruin I've ever visited that is completely free to visit. Run by English Hertitage, who would normally charge a good £10 for something of this size, it is impressive with some good information boards. Slightly tucked away.

The ruins are just amazing and very impressive. There is a nice amount of historical information to read and a few places to sit and enjoy the ruins. I agree with others that this was difficult to find especially if you are using maps on...More
