Entry to this attraction is thankfully free these days - with good reason. There is much of interest for anyone studying the period and layout of what remains of the structure - very little. Young children could be quickly bored here.

Worth taking the path into this splendidly documented archeological site. Fascinating history and well placed between the glorious Cathedral and St CDross on the Itchen watermeadows.

This must have been a magnificent place when it was in daily use. I loved the way that a lot of the areas have a description in them so that you know what you are looking at & with a bit of imagination can bring...More

This old ruin is tucked away behind the Cathedral Close between The Bishop's Palace and Pilgrim School. It is English Heritage but was free to enter. Quite a few information signs around the site giving the history. Well worth a visit 30-45 minutes will suffice.

You get an idea about the royal/archbishop living conditions back in time... Not huge amount of information, but enough. "Just" ruins - but a nice place to walk around.

Just old left over walls and stones left. Not a lot there apart from a few signs explaining what was found in the area and what rooms are used for.

Bit difficult to locate at first but worth a look when you find it. A large amount of castle ruins to explore with info boards which are interesting to read. Children loved climbing on the walls & learnt a bit of history at the same...More

After a little bit of searching we found the surprisingly extensive ruins of this castle, the former residence of bishops of Winchester, just outside the high-walled cathedral close. Well worth the short walk there, there is such a lot to see and the ruins are...More

Extraordinarily hard to locate (surrounded by "private" signs), there is really very little left here to see. Even by the standards of romantic ruins, this is minimal.
