Very slick trip by railway along the pier to the boat followed by a 15 minute ferry journey to Town Quay. Interesting if there are any cruise ships or other marine activity. Town Quay is not too far away from the centre of Southampton, and...More

This is an excellent service between Hythe and Southampton taking off many miles if going by car and roadworks. If any cruise ships are in you get a really birds eye view of them as well

We spent one full sunny day in lovelly Hythe. Instead of the car we enjoyed the nice and comfortable Hythe ferry service and the related old train pier. It was funny and kids loved it so much. Good to keep it working.

quirky old railway to the end of the pier, with a short 15 min hop across to the old quay t Southampton. Saves taking car into town and very useful for the boat show. a little gem

This ferry provides a very quick and easy way to get to Southampton from the other side of Southampton Water. We travelled on a very windy day (40mph+) and we were concerned that the ferry would stop after we’d arrived and we’d be stuck but...More

I believe that you have the answer. It may be limited now but even in the days before car transport, many people boarded with bicycles.
