Classic Norman motte and bailey castle, founded soon after the Conquest to overawe the Saxon town. A later shell-keep crowns its steep mound offering sweeping views across the rooftops to River Dart. Take a picnic under the shade of the ancient trees. Child friendly and dog friendly.

There are a few steep steps upto the castle itself and a few to walk round the walls. But once you've got up onto the wall there is fantastic view of Totnes. It's well worth a visit, if you are in a wheelchair you can...More

What was there was reasonably interesting however it took about 15 minutes in total to complete the whole site. Yes the view from the top was spectacular but have certainly been to better ruins/castles.

A lovely little castle in the town of Totnes. This English Heritage site is well kept. We were lucky the day we visited as their was an interpreter who told us the history and explained how the castle was built. The 360 degree views on...More

One of those where you walk up and then see there's an entry fee. It was one of the easier ones to pay and not notice. In some ways, there's not a lot for your money - a lawn with a few aged trees, walk...More

We went here thinking it would be small and it was, a steep walk to the keep did lead to a superb view over totnes and the area was well kept. But I have to say that's about it, a couple of info boards add...More

Not gonna lie but we went in and paid the entrance fee to support English Heritage rather than any sense that we would be wowed by the castle. We weren’t wrong. Views are great and happy to support the upkeep of this castle.

Lovely piece of haven! Kids enjoyed being the kings and queen of the castle! Weather was damp but it didn’t dampen our spirits!

This castle in the is main ruins, but still the history in the place lives on. With it being mainly an 'open area', it's best to visit on a fine / lovely day. And must say we had a lovely day there, & really enjoyed...More

Visited on a rainy wintry day. Staff were friendly. This is a small quite intact motte and bailey. It's a small circular castle with one small internal room preserved (the toilet!) And you can go up to the top of the castle and walk around....More

A pile of mud with some rocks on top. Nice if you like that kind of thing, but quite disappointing after paying £12 to enter. A few very basic info boards. Very similar experience for free at Plympton.
