Reasonable prices, great food, and great staff. Thoroughly enjoyed lunch by the sea with awesome views. Bring your dog, they have doggy ice cream.

We came with family to walk their dog then walked along the coast into Torquay. The beach was quiet and pleasant although it was late in the day. To be honest I didn't know this beach existed even though we have been to Torquay a number of times.

Found this beach as I walked on the SW coastal path to Babbacombe and stopped for an icecream. Lovely, quiet spot with a small cafe and beach huts to change in. Perfect for a spot of sunbathing or rock pooling

This is a lovely cove-type beach although it has shingle and large stones on it. The beach is at the bottom of a large set of steps but is used regularly by dog walkers. There is a nice cafe on a platform above the beach.

This is an average beach with a scenic backdrop a mile or so from the centre of Torquay. It is mainly pebbly but with a bit of sand and lots of rocks. Like all the town's beaches, it disappears completely at high tide.
It is long and narrow with a cafe and loos at the town end and usually an ice cream van at the other. There is limited parking. Access to the sand is only from each end as the Council in their wisdom have let the steps in the middle get washed away and not replaced them. The loos that used to be free are now 30p a time, the same as for the rest of the town.
One word of warning. The much larger area of beach on the farther side allows dogs. This results in, just to take my most recent experience as an example, a middle-aged couple arriving with their two large dogs and letting them off the lead. The dogs then wee in the water, do their other business on the sand, race around barking continuously, and dash up to a little girl, making her cry. The owners, having allowed all this, then leave after 20 minutes or so. If you want to avoid that kind of experience - and it happens frequently - use the town end.

Is the beach dog friendly?

Yes, the beach is open for dog owners in the winter months (October to March incl) and the North end may be open all year but you have to check that.. there are steep steps at one end and a ramp or eroded steps at the other which are sometimes awkward as the beach level shifts with tides. Poobins each end.
