The walled garden will no doubt be spectacular in a couple of months too.Visited April 2023Written 6 April 2023

- idopam261 contributionsStep back in timeBeautiful country park with lakes and walks to wander, the village of picture perfect thatched houses was a pleasure to walk around. There are great little shops and cafes in the village. The cafe within Cockington Court served up a delicious scone with generous portions of jam and cream, the teas and coffee were excellent. We thoroughly enjoyed looking at all the crafts and workshops, everyone was so friendly, we came home with beautiful glassware and gin.Visited October 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 10 October 2023
- Lynne B3 contributionsBeautiful cockingtonBeautiful olde world village with some really lovely cottages. Good sized car park within a short walk of both the village tea rooms and the Drum pub which was a delight to visit with extensive outside seating and a large area for children and dogs to run around in.Visited on a Sunday so buses from torquay centre ran every 20 minutes. Walked into the village along the road but walked back along the fairly flat path through the nature reserve. Did not get to see in the cockington visitor centre as it was not open Aretha time ofvour visit.Visited February 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 12 February 2024

Quaint little village. Thatched houses. Nice park. There is a small cafe but this closes at 2.30pm. There is a pub up the hill which was nice and served food all day. Worth a visit

A well-marketed disappointment. Gone are the days of seeing a blacksmith in the old forge or feeling/seeing the traditional Cockington, or building memories of a lovely visit to chocolate box houses.
Those who know the place from years ago are advised to hold on to your lovely memories and to avoid a trip down nostalgia lane - you will be sorely disappointed.
What you have is a commercialised tacky tourist haunt with an unwelcoming visitor centre. The gift shops sell tat that you can find in other tacky gift shops around the country - where are the small, unique, local, handmade, artisan products? The old forge is a lovely building but those in charge should be ashamed of what is for sale inside the building.
We walked to the manor and ate at the cafe - no proper service with crockery and proper cutlery - take away boxes, wooden cutlery, a paper cup for mineral water. Apparently, this was due to staff shortages yet I saw several staff hanging about with little to do. Having said this the lady on the till was pleasant and learning the role. My sandwich wasn't what I ordered
(chef error not till error) and had to be sent back, and although it tasted fine it took a VERY long time for the two sandwiches we ordered to arrive - and it was very quiet so being busy couldn't be an excuse! A poorly run cafe, which is not good value. This place could be so much more and a real focus, if properly run. Goodness knows how they cope when large groups come in (one was due). Perhaps they focus on any large group at the expense of any ad hoc custom. Either way, it is not an acceptable way to run a catering establishment. Also, we may as well have been invisible in the artists' gift shop - there was no basic customer service. We wouldn't have bought anything there anyway but a hello, goodbye etc would not have gone amiss!

What a postcard village. This is a wonderful place to visit. Well worth the awkward driving. All ages would be interested in this place. Recommend.

Very pretty village but should have stayed much longer! Have several places for. cream teas - I had a nice date slice and de-cafe cappuccino at Weavers' Cottage.

My wife and I recently visited Cockington Village on a visit to Torquay from Ireland. The village is very pretty but our visit was totally spoiled by an unfair parking ticket and the unhelpful responses to this from the Cockington visitor centre staff and Torbay Council. We had parked in the car park and genuinely thought it was free - hands up I made a mistake. On returning to the car 15 - 20 minutes later I noticed the pay and display signs but alas we had already got a ticket and no traffic warden was to be seen anywhere. We explained our situation in the Visitor centre but they were unhelpful and more or less said 'tough'. I subsequently appealed the penalty with Torbay council but my appeal was rejected. We have had an otherwise great visit to the Torbay area but the council would need to be a bit more considerate to visitors or they won't come back.

Is there a Red tourist bus we can get to go round Torquay? We are visiting this week with a lady who cannot walk far.

Not as far as we know, but there is a single decker bus disguised as a little train, which goes through the streets from the beach, past Torre Abbey. Cannot say exact route but you will be able to ask in Torquay.
