Over the years this place still offers facination of the great British engineers that once were here with this as a fine example.

The Iron Bridge is on the edge of Exeter City Centre and just North of North Street. It crosses a small valley and over time houses have been added to the area so it is surrounded by residences and makes for a less steep ascent and descent to get to the other side.

If you like architecture it's worth hunting down on your visit to the city.

A street of old buildings missed by the German bombers and on the road to the old North Gate of Roman Isca. The gate and walls have disappeared at this location

Just around the corner from my B&B was The Iron Bridge , Not far from city center and Equally not far from Exeter Central Station , This very old bridge still in good condition now as when it was built.
Narrow pavement and if you have a car it`s width restricted as well ..
Had some nice views , Specially of a church . Never saw underneath but i could gather it still has it`s original iron in tact .

Not too far from the main Street is this cast iron structure. Looking underneath you can see how each section was made and brought to the site, probably by train and horse, and the erected on site. A flatpack bridge. It levelled out the steep valley for the carts. At the end nearest the main road is also an interpretation board that explains the bridge but also the former city gate that also stood there. Fascinating.

We were on the way back to St.Davids Station and walked across the Iron Bridge which is no doubt crossed by hundreds if not thousands of Exeter Residents and Tourists.........but how many realise the Historical importance of this construction. Once again a great piece of History in the hustle & bustle of modern Exeter.

Dating from the 1830's, this elegant bridge serves as a southern route from the city centre, with a recent width restriction for cars. The bridge follows a route from 1769 where one of the city gates had been removed, and greatly improved access for coaches and horses before the age of the motor car.

Fascinating piece of architecture, built in 1834 and only really used for 6 years, before the route was superseded. It provided a route from the North into Exeter. The iron sections were produced in Wales and transported to Exeter to be assembled

Good walking route to St Davids station. Reduces the hills that you need to climb. Better views of the bridge itself from the side
