Who says Cheshire is flat and boring. This trail proves it to be the opposite. Varied landscapes, lots of interesting places to visit on the way and fantastic views. Roughly 35 miles, very do-able in stages or over a couple of full days. Highly recommended

Sat between 2 castles, a great walk, beware of the mosquito though. We started from the English Heritage castle Beeston and walked a circular route. It was very well signposted and made for an enjoyable couple of hours. The toilets were in the castle grounds...More

Enjoy spectacular and varied scenery across Western Cheshire. Plenty of hills with great rural views and its away from the traffic. There are very few places to stop for refreshments without vearing off the route,so plan ahead or take a picnic with you.Enjoy the many...More

Wonderful two days walking, starting in Frodsham. Well sign posted and deliciously varied landscape from rocky sandstone outcrops overlooking industrial Cheshire and Merseyside to picturesque fields, bridle paths and ancient woodland. Stayed half wayish at The Pheasant Inn, excellent food and service.

To call the Sandstone Trail "Chester" is a misnomer. It runs between Frodsham in the north and Whitchurch (just in Shropshire) in the south. It starts in Frodsham town centre and climbs steeply to Frodsham Hill with an excellent viewpoint over the Mersey, with the...More
