Walked along the backs from Cambridge to the town of Grantchester enjoying the scenery all along the way! Beautiful unspoiled land and riverbanks all the way.

It is not the views, it is not the punting experience, it is not the guide tour about all the colleges and Cambridge History, it is all of them!

Punting on the Backs if both beautiful and great fun. You need to avoid the weekends, very hot sunny days and holidays. If you don't want to do all the work yourself and prefer to sit back with a glass of champagne you can get...More

Any visitor to Cambridge should make sure they walk along the “backs”. This walk offers great views of the colleges, including Kings College Chapel. I love locally but never tire of the views in this area, whatever the season.

The real Cambridge. Nature and elegance, willows and bridges, atmosphere and academia along the banks of the river.

Hire a punt, take a picnic from the M & S store on the square. Gardens and atmosphere wonderful. Crowded in August, but not like Trumpington Street at the front of the colleges.

The best views of many colleges are gained from a stroll along the Backs - particularly so of the iconic view of Kings.

Probably too late to answer, but it’s fine all year round. you will certainly find muddy patches, but there’s always a dry path and a tarmac lane you can walk or ride on

It might be risky as there is a lot of animals around there, starting from water birds and ending on huge cows :)
