Being able to visit and view the blockhouse was a honor, Seeing where old war veterans was stationed was a real heartwarming experience

Sadly left to rot away
Aug 2017 • Family
The blockhouse stands on the side of a children's play park with plenty of trees and grass. It is closed up and one cannot see inside. The only thing one can do is take photos. Maybe it should have a story board put up for those who are interested. This is our history, one should let interested people know what it's there for. Now, it looks like an old disused building that passers by won't give a second glance. Sad.

So sad

Part of our towns history but no info boards, closed to public and looks like it is used for something else. The same with Kilmarnock house in De Wet str which was the headquaters for the British army during the Anglo Boer war.

Love the park next to the blockhouse

It would be great if we can get more value out of this space. A pity you can find out about the block house - the park is great for kids and families and a few amenities or additions can greatly improve the overall experience.

In a clean park area

The Blockhouse itself is just good for maybe 1 or 2 photos... and you can't go inside which is a bummer. But the park is really nice and clean... and it has some fitness area as well as kids play area. We took our toddler with us and it was really a big surprise how much we enjoyed the day.
A secret tip: there are braai facilities at this venue (but no shop so bring your own food and drinks... and braai wood).
Lovely place to go on a weekend, the tall trees make good shade and it is not at all crowded. I felt safe all the time I was there.

A disappointment

This is in the park across the street from where I live - sadly it is cordoned off and there is absolutely no information board about this blockhouse - you can photograph it, but that's about it

A piece of Boer War History in a back street of Krugersdorp
Apr 2015 • Solo
I cycled past this block house yesterday. It is well preserved and is locked up so that it cannot be easily vandalised or squatted in. There are still a number of blockhouses from the Boer War period in the area and this is worth a look at.
