We just got back from a three night stay and two days of fishing with Pacific Rim Charters and Lodge. I have to say we weren’t particularly pleased with the experience. I looked at several charters in the area and chose Pacific Rim Charters because of their 60# a day guarantee. I thought they have to be pretty confident in the guides and the fisheries to offer that. Unfortunately I didn’t read the fine print on the guarantee. If the guarantee is what might convince you to use them, I’d strongly encourage you to read the terms and conditions which admittedly we should have done.
Our first day the fishing was decent and we came back with three salmon and one rock fish totaling 30# gross weight. The second day was almost a total bust. We caught one chinook the guide estimated to be 8 pounds and one smaller salmon around 3 lbs. And that was it for the whole day unless you count the three very small salmon we caught and the guide threw back. At one point during the day we asked the guide about the 60# guarantee and he said he knew nothing about it. Since the salmon weren‘t biting we went farther out to try to catch some halibut. We were unsuccessful there too and only caught some odd looking and very small rock fish while trolling.. We then tried bait and the wind came up and the swells were getting too big to drift bait for long so the guide decided it was time to go back to the dock.
That 60# guarantee really means each fisherman will catch a minimum of 15# a day and this includes anything you choose to throw back as long as it meets the legal size (the guide didn’t even ask if we wanted to keep them as I think he assumed as did we that we would catch more, and who ever keeps a 12-14” salmon). When we got back and spoke to the owner, Glenn, it was disappointing to hear that our only option was to go back out right then. Glenn offered to call the guide and send us back out. But as we’d packed up and left the boat and were both tired we declined. Our guide never suggested we stay out longer and just fish the sheltered side of the inlet until we had the 30#’s of fish in the boat. It would have been much easier than getting our gear together and going back out. When asked the guide said he didn’t know anything about the guarantee and he’d decided that was it for the day. What bothered me was how adamant Glenn was and how quickly he put the responsibility onto us for not insisting the guide stay out longer and that we should have kept the small salmon as they were over 30cm. It seemed pointless to go back out because either the fish weren’t biting or the guide didn’t know where to go to find them.. Later on that evening I went back and spoke to Glenn about how it shouldn’t be up to the client to have to push the guide for more fishing. It should have been the guide’s job to do that and, Glenn should have clearly communicated with the guide what the 60# guarantee meant. So Glenn offered to buy us dinner by crediting my credit card $200 Canadian which I accepted because we obviously weren’t going to be getting more fish and Glenn wasn’t going to offer any other alternatives.
To rub salt in our wounds when we went to the fish packer the next morning to get our fish there was two other guys there we talked to who used a different guiding company and were collecting their frozen salmon and halibut and it looked like they had about 200+ lbs. to our measly 20#’s.
No company is perfect and all companies have their bad days. What makes a good company is how they respond. We thought Glenn’s first response was very negative blaming us and he only offered the credit after I went back to him a second time to tell him how displeased we were.
The significant cost of this trip was probably the worst trip investment I’ve ever made. It was made more so since this was a lifelong dream to do this and at 70 I’m unlikely to do it again.

Our recent trip to Uclulet was with Glenn and his crew for our Uncles 75 birthday
All he wanted was to catch a big Salmon.
After two days of unbelievable fishing on world class equipped vessels our guide AJ maxed out 5 licenses with Halibut and salmon we filled 4 large igloo coolers and headed home.
The lodge Dianna and her crew worked endless hours making sure our rooms were always ready for our return clean and organized.
Needless to say we have already booked next year with them again.

I've fished with Pacific Rim with both Glen and AJ. The experience was unforgettable. Truly very professional people. Nothing but action and satisfaction pretty much sums it up.

This used to be a very good charter. Their service level severely dropped last couple of years. Use a different service provider.

We would not hesitate to book a stay and fishing charter after Glenn and his team went above and beyond to not only tow our vehicle on the highway but also arrange for ordering the parts required and making sure we were okay when nobody else would. The hospitality shown is indescribable and after having seen the lodge itself, we would recommend our friends and family and everyone else consider these guys in their next West Coast adventure! You guys are true heroes - thank you!

What a fantastic spot. The accommodations were clean and modern. Glenn and Dianna are great hosts and really look after their guests! They promised to look after us and exceeded our expectations! Terrific place to stay and they also do fish charters.
The fishing was fantastic. Our guide Josh had us on the fish all day and we did awesome. It's important to have the right boats and equipment, but critical to have great, knowledgeable fishing guide. Our guide Josh made this a fishing tril we will remember! Thank you Pacific Rim Charters for an absolute world class trip!

The owner, Glen, was our guide for two days and his years of experience in Ucluelet waters was obvious. He can almost think like the fish (his wife Diana told me that). He is extremely knowledgeable about his various watercraft and their engines and accessories. Glen informed us of the various locations and their fishing potential allowing us to dictate where we would spend our time and what types of fish we might catch. We chose to go 25 miles out and fish the open ocean. To our amazement, we could have waterskied out to the spot. We had two days of beautiful flat water and rarely went five minutes without a strike. Both days we filled our limits and returned to port with big smiles. We would certainly like to return and spend more time with Pacific Rim Fishing Charters.

We enjoyed our three day outing, and almost caught all 12 Chinook allowed for our permits.
The fishing for salmon was very good. The two large boats we fished on were comfortable and stable. We only wished there was some seating on the actual fishing decks of Pacific Freedom and Pacific Dream. The scenery along the coast outside of Ucluelet is beautiful. We saw several bald eagles and one humpback whale. Best of all - these guides are as excited about hooking a chubby Chinook as we are!
