Basically this is a very good museum. The arceological sites are described so a visitor will get a feeling for what has found and how. But the world of museums has changed a lot during the last years and this museum has not. Modern technique...More

Whilst researching Tautavel Man, we somehow missed the museum and drove straight to the area of the archaeological dig. After scaling a somewhat treacherous hill to get there, we were meet by some thoroughly confused archaeologists in the middle of further excavation. They were shocked...More

A worthwhile exhibition to visit. Excellent displays and diaporamas. The story of the excavation of the cave with the forensic detail of its layers and contents is interesting as is the pre history itself.

It is worth going to this museum for the scenery alone. Simply spectacular, with visible surrounding caves that give you an idea of prehistoric sheltering places. The museum is well organised - most exhibits are labelled in several languages (English included) which was very helpful...More

I visited Tautavel with my elderly parents and eventually found the museum. For a centre of European research, the signage within the village is very poor. My mother has difficulty walking and she found it very difficult to climb the steps to get to the...More

Thank you for your opinion. We are working with the mayor of Tautavel to propose more efficient signage in the future. In the future museum we will have a much richer and complete offer.

Although the museum takes the visitor through the various rooms in a logical manner i found the information in each area rather lacking. There is little information for the English visitor.

Sorry that the museum did not meet your expectations. The animations and workshops without supplement take place during the school holidays.

Driving to Tautavel through splendid vineyards is in itself a pleasure for the eyes, especially between June and before harvest. The parking situation around the museum is a challenge at that time, but not so much during the low season (Winter). the museum itself attempts...More

After a few mixed reviews I was unsure about the museum but it turned out to be a really well presented, very comprehensive museum mainly about Tautavel man who predates Homo-erectus. You could criticise it for maybe a few too many displays of bones, tools...More

Is is where the remains of a human 45000 years old, were found. We very well received by the archeologist who runs the museum. Well worth a visit.
