Doesn’t look like much at the start but it’s so worth it when you get to the top. Scenery is absolutely stunning. It’s not a long hike but may be tricky for some due to the incline and can be very icy.

Beautiful hike!!!! Beautiful water!!
Bring snacks, and water and take your time. Hike is uphill. Only 1 option no for an in and back hike, in the summer would be nice to have options for trails

The hike had a few tricky spots, but nothing unmanageable, even for our group of inexperienced hikers. And it was so incredibly worth it. The lakes are beautiful, with some wonderful spots to sit and just soak in the landscape. This is a popular spot, so you'll want to go early to get parking. There is an overflow lot, but getting from there to the trail is another hike in itself.

Party of 5 - 3 teenagers, 2 adults.
The walk up the trail was rather taxing but the view up there was well worth it!
The air was crisp and a big thin. The snow on the trail was fresh so it was easy to walk through.
The picture moments...wow!!
Got there at about 11am, it wasn't deserted but wasn't as busy as I'd feared.

The hike was incredibly icy but we managed through with runners and it was well worth it. Lots of people on the trail. Easy Trail was the only loop open but it was a good workout traveling uphill the whole way to the lake. We almost missed the 2nd body of water and extra climb had someone not mentioned looping around. No signage. Don’t miss this spot, so beautiful.

After getting this hike recommendation we arrived at about 12:30. Luckily we still got parking, as you could tell this was a popular spot. With it being a little snow covered having better footwear/spikes would have been nice. The lakes are absolutely beautiful!! Hiking up to some of the rock climbing spots also added extra challenge and a little more fun to this hike! We enjoyed ourselves and overall would say this is a family friendly hike.

Based on reviews I saw we decided to get there early as parking becomes more difficult as the day goes on, and that was useful. We got to the trail about 9 am on a Saturday. We took a picture of the trail map and then proceeded to the trail. We took the hard trail, which is where you get the best views. The trail was somewhat difficult in places, but I think most people in reasonable shape can handle it. It had rained the night before so there were spots that were muddy and some spots where you had to stop on the rocks to keep your feet dry. We didn't have proper hiking shoes, so if you do, it wouldn't be an issue. We went past the lake and followed some steep stairs up to the top. We paused for a bit to watch the mountain climbers, that was pretty cool. The trek to the top is fairly steep, but the steps help. Take your time, you'll be fine. When we came back down to the lake, you have the option of going back the way you came or switch over to the easy trail. We opted for the easy trail as we'd already seem the sites and it was getting pretty busy, so we felt it would be less crowded. I'm glad we did as the easy route is gravel and very wide. The walk down is easy and the traffic was lite. There are bathrooms at the parking lot level, seemed fairly clean to me.

Lovely easy hike, but go early - gets busy later in the day. Barely any parking at the trail head, but there is a lot at the top.

Great views from the top, but a lot of climbing. Take the easy route if in any doubt about your fitness levels.

Hiked Grassi Lakes sat sept 4th, was busy, but I can understand why, it is an amazing hike, every step is interesting, some challenging areas but so worth it for the views along the way!! Take the "hard" route, it is doable for most, take your time, rest when you need, and don't give up on the more difficult "steps" because it is totally worth it to get to the top. You will not be disappointed!!

The road to the parking lot at the trail head is pavement. The gravel starts if you want to go past the trailhead.

somehow i wound up at the powerstation reservoir. Don't do that! But it was easy to find once I turned around. Great hike! And take the slightly more difficult way.

I passed a number of dogs on the trail. Like the hiker, the dog must be minimally fit.

Could you get up the easy access trail with a stroller? My little dude is 15 months and we're visiting with family the second week of July. Is this hike advisable for us? Thanks!

Yes as long as the stroller has big wheels. We have a schwinn stroller that would have worked. An umbrella or stroller with plastic wheels would not be recommended. Do not try the hard way with a stroller as the path is quite narrow and you would need to carry it up in numerous places. Happy hiking :)
