The Guesthouse Castelo do Alvito is a small charming hotel inside the old castle at the old village of Alvito, Alentejo, Portugal. It has large, comfortable rooms with private WC and bath in a small building surrounded by a nice natural landscape and offering a good restaurant to the guests. The small village does not offer many alternatives in this field. It is a pity that the restaurant usually takes more than 30 minutes to bring the meals displayed in the menu.

My cousin took us here when we visited my dad's brithplace of Atina. The castle ruins will transport you back in town and the view of the Comino Valley is spectacular. The photo opps alone are worth the stop. My step-daughter said this visit was her favorite day perhaps because of the "Titanic-like" photo she had us snap of her on a wall with sure footing looking out on the valley. There was nobody around in early October. Local folk were very friendly and let us use their restrooms. We stopped her after visited the Tullio torrone shop in nearby town.

While visiting my family's home town of Alvito, we visited the castle as well. While I couldn't find the exact date of it's build, it seems as if the date is is the 1400's during the Renaissance period. You can venture inside and imagine yourself back in that time.
