Cameron Peters of Cape Town Heritage Tours is a significant new presence to the Cape Town tourism scene. As a returning Capetonian, I initially enrolled on his tours, as a way to rediscover my University of Cape Town student days.
I have now been on two of his tours, the Sea Point tour, and the Observatory tour.
Cameron has a genuine passion for Cape Town, which when layered with his integration of an Oxford Education, thoroughly researched material including such diverse material as geological formations, colonial history, cool bars and eateries, and rich mobile library of texts and pictures, creates a special time capsule of the area being visited.
His presentation style is very engaging, and combines thoughtful insights, with humour.
If I was visiting Cape Town, I would seriously explore his availability as a guide to explore this facinating city.

Cameron's tour was fantastic. I come from baseline of zero knowledge about the history of the Cape. He was incredibly interesting and his knowledge and passion for the subject is amazing. I am deaf, which worried me (thought I wouldn't be able to hear)...I had no problems, he speaks loudly and very clearly. Cannot recommend him highly enough!

If one does not do one of Cameron's absolutely brilliant walking tours, one is missing a singular experience and one's life is genuinely poorer for it. Honestly. There's a lot in this world that is entirely 'missable' and one feels that doing or not doing those things made no difference in the grand scheme of things... but a walking tour with Cameron is not in that category. Once you do it, you'll know you were absolutely missing a certain level of experience and that your life is now richer for having done the tour. (And I say this as someone who has done innumerable walking tours in at least 20-odd countries.)
My family and I were so fortunate to have Cameron conduct a private tour for us in Hout Bay, where we live. Despite my being familiar with Hout Bay I knew I'd learn some new things from Cameron, and boy was I right! But not only did I learn a great deal, we all got to see Hout Bay in a brand new light, gaining so many insights that Cameron generously and engagingly shared. (Do please note that while the pace of the tour was tailored for our group at our request, the content was about 95% what Cameron covers in his group walking tours, because we were keen to hear everything he typically shares with his standard groups. So if a private tour is not what you're looking for please do the group tour, it'll be just as valuable.)
Cameron covers history, culture, socio-political perspectives, human geography, and much more in his tours, with unmatched enthusiasm, attention to detail, and a true passion for scholarship. I can guarantee that anyone who does his tours will end the tour feeling edified while having had a heck of a lot of fun.
We can't wait to do his tours in other parts of this beautiful city. It now feels like if we don't get to explore this city with him, we won't ever get to understand it in its full depth and complexity. I can't speak highly enough about Cameron's tours -- please don't miss out, do them and you'll agree for sure. (Seriously - this is when one needs TripAdvisor to allow ten stars out of five!)😃

It's an interesting time, if I do say so myself ;) The tours make locals feel like tourists and tourists feel like locals. Don't join if you don't enjoy deep-dives, but the guide makes it clear exactly what you're getting into.

This was a busman's holiday for me - a newly retired History teacher embarking on a History walking tour. Of course! This was a perfect combination of two of my favourite hobbies and it was simply a joy. Cape Town Heritage Tours is run by Cameron Peters, a storyteller at heart who also just happens to be a Rhodes Scholar with a passion for History. To say that he knows his stuff would be an understatement.
Cape Heritage Tours runs several different walks and I did the one from Muizenberg to Kalk Bay, delightedly dubbed 'Talking Kalk'. Cameron isn't one of those shouty walking tour guides who sticks to a fossilised script waving an umbrella - he speaks from a place of knowledge, passion and engagement. Our group made multiple stops at points of interest along the erstwhile 'Millionaires' Mile, with Cameron beguiling us with tales of everything from Agatha Christie bathing at Muizenberg to cannon balls still lodged in the national park area behind Rhodes Cottage.
The facts came thick and fast - funny, fascinating and sometimes quite incredible - and Cameron gave us lots of opportunities to ask questions or to add more information. Having lots of stops meant that we could have a quick cool down on a very hot Sunday afternoon as well as cover the 2 km (ish) walk without even realising how far we had come.
Our walk finished in Kalk Bay with the opportunity to visit the legendary Olympia Cafe and enjoy a well-earned treat. (Not included in the R100 cost). Cameron was also at hand to carry on talking History to those who needed even more intel.
The various tours run during the Summer months and details can be found on the FaceBook page link. Cost is R100 per person if paid in advance and R150 if you pay on the day. This is a tour for both non-Capetonians and Capetonians alike - and for those who always claim not to have enjoyed History at school!
A better way to learn so much about Cape Town's fascinating History in two hours would be hard to find.
