Highly recommend to use Cindy Blom at Africa Safari Group . She understood that it was our first visit to the bush and ensured to book us the perfect accommodation . Even though this was a very last minute booking it was not about the sale but what was required . She managed our travel time so we did not have to drive too far out ensured we booked luxury and that our accommodation was safe as we were traveling with my parents during the covid Makwete is a luxury lodge where we received personal service . They catered for all our needs from halal meals to ensuring we experienced the Big 5 , a perfect lion killing , an elephant herd. I would recommend Cindy Blom at African safari group for your travel requirements any day

I concur with the other review below, we had the same negative experience with ASG. We booked and paid R 170.000 for a Safari, which had to cancelled due to Covid. They offered post-ponement, but we wanted a refund and according to the ombudsman they are obliged to refund if requested. We contacted them by email, but they just did not respond to our emails. When we phoned the sales consultant she said she was instructed by managment to not respond to my queries including my observation that they had changed their terms and conditions AFTER our booking to include the force majeur clause to cover themselves for covid cancellations. Eventually the sales consultant sent us “proof of cancellation” WITHOUT A REFUND and wanted to keep out R 170.000! Upon our objections and contacting the sales manager, they once again only offered post-ponement within 12 months, which we can of course not take up (even if we wanted to) as we are in Australia and our borders are closed. The staff was unprofessional, intentionally deceitful and unethical, all the way from the incompetent sales consultant to the sales manager and owner of the company, who of course also did not respond to our emails. We finally hired a law firm in Johannesburg to take up this matter and upon their intervention we received most of our money back. I will never book with this company ever again, in fact I will never holiday in South Africa again! What ASG has done is damage the reputation of the South African safari industry and the reputation of this once beautiful country now plagued by corruption and theft at all levels. No thank you, I will not support this!

Nearly any travel agency can service your needs in good times. Very few can do so in the worst of times. Back in February of 2020 my three friends and I authorized nearly twenty grand for air and ground safari and city tours. Three weeks later Covid 19 hit our planet. The world as we knew it was shut down. South African airlines went went bankrupt, along with a big part of our money. Thankfully African Safari Group (ASG) did not forsake us. Since the C19 meltdown their team of advisors have hung in with us. Thanks to them, we have saved our South African adventure from ruin. We have resurrected and are now on track to enjoy Sun City, Karongwe Safari Lodge and the beauty of Cape Town next May 2021. All thanks to African Safari Group

I had never worked through a safari organizer before, having previously done my own bookings, so I was unsure of what to expect when I contacted African Safari Group. From the outset, the experience was overwhelming. I promptly received a call from Estelle Toerien and from that moment I knew I was in experienced, capable and enthusiastic hands. She constructed itinerary options, took note of my needs and wants, and adapted the holiday plan to Simbavati and Umkumbe to perfectly fit my schedule and budget. The informational material provided was outstanding, and even as a seasoned safari goer I found new facts and information of use to me. The material provided was extremely well organized and each clickable link led to useful information. The follow-up after the safari was as good. I will definitely use this service again. In terms of the reserves visited, Simbavati earns its 4 stars. Every aspect of the experience was good, from the excellent accommodation, the smartness of the communal area, the food (both in terms of quality and amounts. One feels like you never stop eating!), the ambiance, the highly professional and courteous staff, and especially the experience and knowledge of the game viewing guide and tracker. Because the reserve has extensive traversing rights on other properties, the volume and variety of game was spectacular. 6 separate leopard and 2 lion sightings! Access to the Kruger National Park is very easy if one wants to extend a holiday with a day or two of self-drive game viewing while exiting the area on the way home, rather than driving through the built-up areas to the west. I would recommend Simbavati to any discerning safari goer. Umkumbe is a 3 star reserve and fully meets the criteria for that rating. I was not disappointed, as the accommodation was very good, as was the food, friendly and helpful staff, and enthusiastic game guide and tracker. Where the reserve falls a little short is the smaller size of the area one can traverse. After 4 game drives one feels that the environment becomes very familiar and sometimes feels that the same tree or termite mound has been passed a number of times before. That being said, the variety of game viewed was good and included some species not often seen like the honey badger. The restricted wifi service is a problem if one wants to continue with work after the evening game drive. Like Simbavati, access to the Kruger National Park is very easy if one wants to extend a holiday with a day or two of self-drive game viewing while exiting the area on the way home, rather than driving through the built-up areas to the west. I would recommend Umkumbe to those on a tighter budget. For those on Vodacom, be advised that neither of the reserves visited receive a signal. The complete lack of mobile coverage for the entire visit was a disappointment. Of course, no one wants cellphones ringing while on game drives, but this could be a problem for business people wishing to conduct business (or even personal matters) when back in camp.
