Nemea is not far from Mycenae but much less visited. Although a different type of site it is still very worth while seeing being set in a green valley in an attractive situation. The site itself is well maintained and includes an excellent and informative...More

The archaeologists did a very successful restoration of the columns which was very important for the monument.

I wrote a review of this in February only giving 2 stars, as it was shut and we were one of several groups peering through the chain link fencing. Re-visited in May when it was open and I can say it is excellent. It is...More

Ancient Nemea is 100% worth doing for a few reasons. It is often not overly crowded, you can visit two sites right near one another (the stadium and the primary museum/archaeological site), and you simply cannot get closer to the history than you do in...More

I’m not sure I’ve been many places when I’ve had the whole place to myself and felt like I was walking through time. You can wander through the ruins and clamber over the spectacular temple of Zeus. The bath house is exceptionally well preserved and...More

After doing battle with coach tours and school parties, this was a great relief. This is a beautiful, peaceful little site off the tourist trails. Plenty of wild flowers. Restoration is ongoing. The temple now has 10 columns, rather than the 3 announced in the...More

During our tour of the Peloponnese we wanted to better understand the historical context of things. Ancient Nemea was uncrowded with a reasonable admission fee, and the ruins were in good shape which gave us the visuals we needed. We especially liked walking through the...More

The site at Nemea has a great semi-reconstructed temple and they have been working on reconstructing more in recent years. The stadium is also in great shape. These ruins were one of my favorite things to see in the whole Peloponnese region.

We were a little nervous about venturing to Nemea after seeing several reviews about the site being closed. We decided to chance it and were very pleased we did. It was open (on a Wednesday morning during off season in March) and we pretty much...More

Ancient Nemea consists of 2 locations: the stadium and the main ancient site. I was fortunate enough to have both of them entirely to myself when I visited in early March. Being able to soak up the ancient ruins without having the experienced ruined by...More
