This little museum is very informative, and the guide is so passionate. He even takes you down to the river to find fossils yourself!

A very interesting little museum but the highlight was when the Andries (guide) took us to the river to show is the fossils in their natural environment!
Definitely our favourite activity in Nieu-Bethesda.
Thanks Andries. You are a passionate and guide tourist guide. Keep it up!

The Fossil Exploration Centre was the highlight of our visit to Nieu-Bethesda.
The Owl House is maybe over-rated albeit fascinating.

We visited the Kitching Fossil Exploration Centre in Nieu-Bethesda. The tour was extremely informative and we even got to see a few fossils in the riverbed. I would recommend the tour to anyone interested in history and nature.

What an amazing and enthusiastic guide - he captured the essence of the fossils and made it real and interesting.
Different and fun - you wander among goats and the river and at your feet are fossils in the Beaufort rock series - WOW!
I even found a few bones on my own!
Something different and well worth the walk! The video and in the museum pieces are extremely well done. Just a little oasis in a small out of the way place.
Well done Nieu Bethesda

As the parent of a teen that dreams of being a paleontologist, I have seen and been to many fossil 'places'. Kitching has so much to offer and yet I felt that they were rushing us through the tour. The guide walked ahead of us and with the wind blowing, we couldn't hear what he was explaining.

We arrived during the week, having made a special trip to Nieu Bethesda to visit this Centre. It was closed-- but a call to the listed number and a staff member soon arrived to assist us. This is a great experience for all ages, especially for those children who are of an age to experience the excitement of scientific exploration. The guide was very knowledgeable and helpful. You watch videos, tour the exhibit, learn how fossils are prepared, and go out to the ancient fossil beds to see them in situ. A visit will open your eyes to the wonders of South African heritage.

We had an interesting tour with Andries, who brought the process of fossil finding to life. It was great to be able to learn more about paleontology and the ancient creatures specific to this area.

This is not your ordinary fossil exhibit. Mr Tromp teaches you so much about the different fossils found in the area and who found them. Then he demonstrates how to excavate a fossil where after you walk down to the dry river bed to see the fossils “come to life” by finding them lodged in the rocks.
It fascinated my teenagers to see them “ for real” in the riverbed.

What an amazing experience! As a giant paleo nerd myself, this really put me in my happy place. It’s incredible to able to see actual fossils in place on the ancient riverbed. Gerard was an incredible and knowledgable guide. This was such a great experience

Hi, we did not make any reservations. At their reception one can find out more and book a tour, they were not that busy...we however only visited the exhibition in town.
