I am very glad we visited this quaint town, and the kids enjoyed the brief boat ride. I don't think we will try to come back, but we wouldn't have wanted to miss it.

Lago Ypacarai is really nice and has lovely walkways alongside it. It can get very hot during the day so they made sure they planted plenty of trees and quite a lot of benches too. Very well planned.

This lake is near the Capital of Paraguay, is an excellent place to stay later in the afternoon and to drink a Terere, a typical Paraguayan Tea, served cold and is very good.

It's worth a visit. It's very quiet during the off season months. It's packed in summer. Lots of German cultural influence here. First settlers were Germans that fled during the last decades of the 1800's. The lake, sadly, is polluted. Do not enter!

I dove in a quarry near the Ypacarai lake on New Year day with the wonderful Aventuras Extremas (see my separate review on that agency). The quarry is an old dolomite quarry which is small. There are two cars, one purposely sunk by Aventuras Extremas...More

You could pretty much see the Cathedral, Theater, Government Palace, Legislative building ,and Avenida Costanera in one day. After that you would have to venture outside of Asuncion to see more sites. I would recommend taking the "Circuito de Oro" tour with Martin Travel which...More
