About
Ruaha National Park is the largest national park in Tanzania making it the largest park in East Africa. The name of the park is derived from the Great Ruaha River, which flows along its southeastern margin and is the focus for game viewing. The park can be reached by private plane and there are 2 airstrips – Msembe airstrip at Msembe (National Park Headquarters), and Jongomeru Airstrip. Noted animals found in this park are East African cheetah and lion, African leopard and wild dog, spotted hyena, giraffe, hippopotamus, African buffalo, and sable antelope. Since 2005, the protected area is considered a Lion Conservation Unit. The park is known for its large elephant population. More than 571 species of birds have been identified in the park. The only lodge inside the park is the Ruaha River Lodge that can be visited at any time of year. Wildlife converges on the dwindling water reserves and river in front of the Lodge. Game can be seen throughout the day from the veranda.

5 out of 5 to Tanzania Horizon Safaris.
Jun 2021 • Couples
What fantastic 8 days we have had. Tanzania Horizon Safaris had arranged everything down to the last detail for us. We visited Selous Game Reserve, Mikumi National Park & Ruaha National Park . The guides were really super. What lovely men and how much they knew about all the places that we visited. I will recommend anyone who wants to plan a safari to do this through Tanzania Horizon Safaris. Thank you for this unforgettable journey. Amazing trip trip organised by Boker Adventures
Mar 2021
It was a very nice tour organized with Boker Adventures at Mikumi and Ruaha National Park in the southern part of Tanzania.

After climbing mt Kilimanjaro we ask Peter the Director to assist in organizing a tour to the southern part of Tanzania that will cover 3 days 2 nights and the experience was really amazing. He booked a local flight from JRO to DAR and the guide was at the airport already to pick us. We overnight in Dar es salaam for one night and the next day start our tour to Mikumi and Ruaha.

We were able to see a number of animals especially my favorite animal Girrafe feeding itself on the tall acacia trees. The guide was very knowledgeable in vegetation, birds, and animals.

We appreciate indeed Boker Adventures kindness and flexibility in all activities. Every day and all activities make us love Tanzania but also wish to come back as soon as possible.

We recommend Boker Adventures to safari as well.

Thanks
Benny

Nature at its best
Apr 2021
Visited the park for 1 night , 2 days , the bird watching was good , enjoyed the night safari experience , Lions are plentiful and as it was rainy season not so many animals were easily visible due to tall grasses , but dry seaseon june - september would be better period to visit .

I stayed 2 days in Ruaha National Park in January 2019. The landscape of the park is very fine and varied; consisting of bushy savannah surrounding Ruaha river, rocky outcrops and beautiful majestic baobabs, with mountains in the background!and there are several small lakes where animals come to drink. The fauna in Selous is rich. In the park, during day safaris, we have seen:
- lions, leopards
- big families of elephants
- beautiful roan and sable antelopes
- spotted hyenas, black-backed jackals
- other mammals, e.g.: zebras, giraffes, large herds of buffaloes, lesser kudus, Grant’s gazelles, warthogs…
- hippos resting in river and crocodiles on the banks of the river
- ostriches a lot of beautiful birds.
Taken together, I highly recommend to visit Ruaha National Park

Nice place. Bad time

Beautiful park. Great views. Great potential if better managed.
Besides the point of visiting in rain season when it gets harder to see animals, the visit was disappointing.
In first place they tell you you can use a guide who is supposed to guide you. They don’t recommend one or have a list. You have to blind choose one of the 10 that start to appear around.
We chose one that seemed to speak English and a bit after when we started the drive we saw he just had a map with some of the tracks and animals where they might be found. The same we could do with that map is what he did. Try and see if...
They do not communicate between them when some other spots something interesting. He confessed he had done it only 15 times. He had been there only for 3 months. So we ended up cutting our three day visit to one and going somewhere else (Mikumi) where we found better everything (park, people, options, lodging, etc).
Sadly a waste of time and gas getting there.

Ruaha National Park is well worth the time to visit, the park is a nice mixture of woodland, savannah and swamps. Great birdlife. The elephants were everywhere.

Trip of a Lifetime with Zepisa African safaris
Mar 2020
We’ve traveled extensively,
over 50 countries.
This trip by far was the VERY BEST! An experience of a lifetime. Everything was great: lodging, food, guides, and the ANIMALS in Ruaha National park. Nyemo was so helpful and everything went without a hitch.
Thank You.

My favorite park in Tanzania, wild and far from the world. Africa as I love it, authentic and rebellious.
