Beautiful interior, very peaceful. We didn't realise the building was open. The doorway is not obvious as a main entrance and it wasn't until we enquired at Tourist Information that we found out the church was indeed open.

This Abbey was originally completed in 1056 and destroyed twice since then. It was blown up by the retreating Germans in 1944 and this led to a complete reconstruction over 12 years to the original Romanesque design. It is simple and beautiful with a lovely...More

We visited the church during Mass on Sunday. All people, young and old, were festive dressed and we felt their solemn mood. Romanesque abbey church has high nave, which creates large internal space but we wondered most because the huge bell tower.
