While Carcassonne for all its beauty might leave you feeling a bit like you just visited a theme park, Peyreperteuse will charm you with all its decadence and realism. The castle is located pretty much in the middle of nowhere, on top of a little...More

We arrived as the clouds descended so that didn't help. However, be aware that there is a short but attention grabbing walk up a broken path and rock stairs that requires appropriate footwear. We didn't use the audio guide as we had read the Cathar...More

We visited at a time of high winds (October) so were glad for the rope grips along some of the steeper steps. The climb just illustrates the impregnability of the castle site. Our guide pointed out that the castle "keep" was likely two stories when...More

This castle is perched on the top of limestone cliffs and it just merges with the surrounding skyline. But the climb up to it reveals an enormous and beautifully restored castle which is just breathtaking. The views are amazing, the castle magical - it's a...More

This was an amazing castle and the views across the French countryside were spectacular. My husband drove the hire car and the drive involved negotiating a number of narrow, winding country roads. I would say you need to be a confident driver to attempt this,...More

We came to this region, to visit the famous cathare castles. Indeed it was a marvelous visit, everything well organized, parking for cars, a minibus to carry us until the entrance of the castle and then, besides attractions like bear, eagles, warriors fights, the discovery...More

It's in French. We were however able to appreciate the action and enjoyed the show. Most of the visitors appeared to understand French.
