It was quite interesting to read about the canal and watch it in operation. They will even open the locks for a single kayaker. The locks are operated manually! Got some great views and history while visiting the Rudeau Canal. Certainly worth a few minutes...More

This is a really great site to visit, just be prepared to walk up and down some stairs. This was wonderful for my husband and I, but it was a bit of work for my grandmother.

It was a gorgeous day when we used the canal to explore more of the city, and it was perfect. Wide walkways for pedestrians and bicyclists as well as plenty of rest stops, not to mention the lovely scenery. A great morning

Our ride up the canal was very enjoyable even in the rain. It was during the tulip festival, and though the boat didn't stop and the tulips were a bit far away, the guide was exceptional. I learned a lot about the canal and was...More

It is quite interesting to see how the system works bringing small boats from and to the channel. In a major scale and obvious automation it is the same idea behind the Panama Channel.

The grounds around the canal are lovely and tidy. Plenty of people here exercising or just enjoying the sunshine.

The canal is a great place to walk along for miles, I've seen people canoeing, in their boats, etc. Of course in winter you can skate on it, for a few days of the year anyway. The Rideau Canal is more than just Ottawa, too....More

Great 'get away from it all' in the heart of the city - strongly recommend walking along the canal paths up and down and across bridges and over the loch gates.

Although busy with meetings, the canal was a great reprieve from the noise and construction currently happening at the legislature. A short but strenuous walk takes you on a fascinating journey in engineering. If you need a break I highly recommend.

Right in the heart of Ottawa is the Rideau canal which links the St Lawrence River to Lake Ontario and it is a world heritage site. So it is an interesting place to visit but it is lovely just to walk along the canal and...More

The closest parking lot is at city hall and costs the same as street parking, 3$ an hour I think. If you take the right stairs you end up in front of city hall steps away from the canal.
