Overview
More
Situated in the capital of the Northwest Territories, the Prince of Wales Northern Heritage Centre (PWNHC) produces exhibitions that tell stories about the land, people, and history of the NWT. However, the PWNHC is "more than a museum". In addition to its exhibits, education, collections, and conservation programs, the PWNHC houses the NWT Archives, provides technical, logistic, and financial support to individuals and organizations involved in cultural activities and the arts, and authorizes archaeological studies in the NWT. The Museum also houses a cafe that provides delectable fares from 11:00 am to 2:00 pm on weekdays.

Our young kids had a blast playing with interactive play corner representing an RCMP camp site with dog sled crew. Each exhibit area had enough interesting stuff for the kids to look at and the parents got to read and learn too! A well maintained...More

Great museum! Pleased to learn about special constables (RCMP); northern clothing and Phillipinos! Lovely building and grounds. Donations only for entrance fee but you'll want to make one!

This is a great little museum that is worth the time to go see it. The displays are always changing so I usually go at least once a year.

I took my dad to the Centre for Father's Day. Great exhibits. A very helpful security officer offered a wheel chair for us to use.

The government worked with the Dene people to gather donation for the museum. Fascinating bits about mining radium, lifestyle of the Dene people. Plenty of animals and birds.

Great place to spend on a rainy/cold day. There are about 3-5 display rooms and you can spend hours here. There is so much to see and learn, plan for a few hours here. And it is good for children too. Would return again because...More

A must see to appreciate local culture. Exhibits show both historical aspects and showcase extraordinary First Nations artists. Margaret Nazon, a Tsiigehtchic artist, beads images from the Hubble telescope. Spiral arms of a galaxy spin out from a center of caribou bone. Breathtaking. I wish...More
