I was drawn here because I found that my ancestors emigrated from the region known as "Le Perche" in France - apparently in the mid 1600s there was a large group that left the region for "New France" (Quebec). This museum documents that first wave and the many waves that followed. It is extremely well-done. Imagine my delight when I spotted my 8th Great Grandfather's name on a poster hanging in the museum's research area! There was also a book in the research area that allowed me to figure out the meaning of our family's name...

If you want to learn how the French made its way to Canada, this is a must stop for you. Our family stopped there and explored all they had to offer and learned more than just history but also had assistance that was unheard of. We were given information and directions on how to get to historical sites that related to our family. It is small but very fair price to get into. We did not speak French but the lady working there provided information in English for us and there were a few video productions that had English subtitles. This is a must visit place in a lovely little town.

We stopped in Tourouvre au Perche on our way to the Normandy coast. It was a well worth our time! My husband's ancestors left this village in the immigration to Montreal during the 1600's, it was heartwarming to see all the names in the church of St. Aubin, and in the well organized museum.

We really enjoyed visiting this small museum dedicated to those who populated New France. The staff were extremely helpful in helping us locate our family homestead and giving driving directions to our French driver.
