Beautiful beach, great restaurants, friendly people and tours to see 500-5000 flamingos. I first came here 18 years ago with my daughter and now finally returning with my grandsons.

I was there in June. I was told that sometimes in the summer there are no flamingos but we were lucky to see a lot of them. If I understand correctly, there's a LOT more in the winter but I still saw hundreds of them....More

We took a boat tour through the mangroves at Celestun and liked the place, the vast arms of the laguna, the many different birds, fish and plants were really worth the visit.

A real Mexican town. Motobicis abound, one can eat a great fish dinner in a palapa on the sand, and if you get up early you can see thousands of flamingos. The beach is great with clear calm water, with a few waves in the...More

Our hosts arranged a full day of birding with David Bacab. He was highly recommended on the web (various reviews) but he turned out to be not-so-great after all. He turned up late without apology. Then, he mostly ignored us and spoke, in Spanish, with...More

We stayed in Merida and took a day trip to the beache at Celestun. It was a little over an hour and an easy drive. We parked right in town which is more or less just one main road and walked to the beach. I...More

Since we were staying in Merida, we couldn't get to Celestun in the early morning (which I had read is the best time to see the Flamingos), so we aimed to get there in the late afternoon (supposedly the second-best option for seeing the most...More

We took a trip to Celestun to see the flamingoes, we weren't disappointed. On the boat trip, which takes around an hour, we saw lots of birds. The flamingoes were plentiful and great to watch taking flight. Also lots of pelicans. We also stopped at...More
