Impressive ancient structure
Mar 2021
This structure sits on the north side of the Great Ballcourt of Chichen Itza. Rather than a temple, it was most likely used as a viewing point for Mayan nobility to watch the games played below.
It gets its name from a depiction of a slender bearded man, much different than most Mayan portrayals of human figures. In fact, the whole back wall is covered with various carvings. This well-preserved ancient structure is certainly worth seeing while visiting Chichen Itza.

The VIP seat
Jan 2021
The Temple of the Bearded man stands at the end of the 168 meters long ball court right in the middle of its two sides.
It's the place from where the king (ruler) watched the game.

Neat Structure

As you walk in on this iconic site, this is the second largest monument you see on the left and across the main pyramid. The architectural design is beautiful, and greatly maintained.

Structure at the end of the ball court
Jan 2020 • Couples
The Temple of the Bearded man is a structure at the end of the ball court in the main area of Chichen-Itza. It gets quite busy around here.

Beautiful Structure
Nov 2019
Another neat structure to see in Chichen Itza. Located near a lot of other Mayan ruins so you can see a lot of buildings at one large site. Had some neat carvings and lots of details. Worth visiting if in the area.

The statue of a Jaguar
Aug 2019
Here you can see a small version of the statue in the main temple - that is closed. There are some carvings and gargoyles.

Named after a Carving.

The Temple of the Bearded Man is at Chichen Itza, Yucatan. It is 123-miles from Cancun City. It sits at the end of the Great Ball Court and was the seat of the Ruler, from where he watched the games played in this field. The acoustics were such that he could hear conversations held at the other end by the communities of the ordinary citizens, but this only worked in his direction. This temple is a small masonry building with detailed carvings on the inner walls, including a center figure that has carving under his chin that resembles facial hair, thus giving the Temple it's name.
Scholars are divided on the identity of the Bearded Man.

One of the many structures to be seen at Chichen Itza
Jan 2019 • Family
The Temple of the Bearded Man or the North Temple is a small masonry building with detailed bas-relief carvings on the inner walls, including a center figure that has carving under his chin that resembles facial hair. At the south end is another, much bigger temple, but in ruins.

Mayan History
Nov 2018 • Solo
This place evokes wonder upon first viewing. The temple of the bearded man is right next to the sporting field and is thus walking distance from El Costillo. It is well worth the visit and your tour guide may offer some interesting information!
