The Mission de Nuestra Senora de Loreto is in the heart of Loreto and well worth the visit. You can feel the history and read about it as well. If lucky you will be there when they ring the bells. The mission has many restaurants...More

A small community church providing an insight into the life of the catholic community of Loreto. The mission purports to be the first on the Camino Real trail. It has been rebuilt following an earthquake but in the style of the original. Worth seeing.

This is in the heart of Loreto and has a very interesting history. Take the time to read about it. This was the first mission in the area and is very old.

The padre's presence in Baja cannot be ignored. This mission, among others, is a massive example of the impact of the Spaniard's arrival on the Baja peninsula. To see the extent of the native's forced labor and involvement is unfathomable. The mission is a testimony...More

As per Mexican custom, this beautiful structure does not have fanfare or crowds or embellishment; the architectural details suffice, the grand scale interiors providing an understated elegance. Regrettably, I didn't have the opportunity to attend a mass here, but perhaps you may. Enjoy an outdoor...More

All around the town square, it stands out. There is a museum, tourist office and of course the church with multilingual services.

There are two attractions to see at the Mission. There is the Mission Church itself and also the attached museum. The church is a well preserved example of an early (1697) California Mission well worth a 15-20 minute visit. However you feel about the purpose...More

Great finding out about the origins of Loreto. I was particularly interested having been educated by Jesuits.
