I took a ride on the steam train to Swanwick Junction where I visited the museum, sidings and heavy maintenance depot where a steam engine was being prepared for main line running. Excellent visit.

This was one of several visits to Butterley. Check their website for details. Many forms of transport can be seen on special weekends at Swanwick . Great place to visit.

Midland Railway centre lovely steam trains to ride in the carriages smell that steam. Enjoy the farm at one end of the line and explore the engines close up

I did see an engine in the siding with a Gordon face but it was on the tracks. I presume they will do Thomas weekends would be worth a phone call first hope to that helps 😊

You can now get a family ticket through 'Woucher' for £18. I have used this ticket and it is good value.

Trains depart from the Butterley Station which is on the B6179 just outside Ripley. The site has free parking. The train travels through a long scenic cutting before arriving at the Swanwick Junction site. At this site... More
