Lovely few hours. Pretty little village. Parking. Cafe opposite. Exit to river through castle was so pretty. Might be muddy on a wet day. We spotted the water mill Nice find.

There are three castles in this area to the east of Abergavenny: The White Castle, Grosmont and Skenfrith. They are all owned by or in the care of conservation charities like Cadw or the National Trust. Skenfrith is the one with the least to see...More

Lovely castle although in ruins set in an idyllic village and rolling hills. Although not huge, it is fascinating to explore. Managed by NT but free to get in, alas, no conveniences or other amenities. We couldn't understand why there were so many cars and...More

Skenfrith is a lovely little village. The castle is ruined but interesting nonetheless, situated next to the river. There are a number of information boards around the site which give an insight into the castle over the centuries. My only criticism is that there was...More

Was visiting all the three castles in the area. Interesting castle in a lovely village next to the river Monnow and an episode of Dr Who was filmed there. Really hot on the day we visited so took a dip in the river. Then on...More

Glad I visited as I was in the area. The castle is one of three along with Skenfrith and Grosmont that are more associated with King Stephen's reign 1135-1154. Not a lot to see though.

There are lots of hidden nooks here and you can get a real feel for what it might have been like to find yourself held up in this castle all those years ago. Got to admit a little surprised that more has not been made...More

We found this castle an interesting one to visit and it is free with parking next to it. The informative information boards in the grounds helped us to understand the castle. The archway to the river is worth going through as the river is attractive....More
