Quick nice water tower visit close to the queens staircase and fort fincastle. The water tower is not open to the public but a quick stop to take some beautiful pictures. Enjoy and thank me later

Just letting any future Nassau visitor that the water tower is still closed for renovation. It is located between the Queen's staircase and Fort Fincastle.

We stumbled upon the water tower when visiting the Queens staircase. When you've climbed to the top of the Queens Staircase to your immediate right you will see both the water Tower and Fincastle and a bunch of kiosk selling local favors (remember to bargain). A good rule of thumb is what ever they ask cut the price in half, most times you'll wake away with what you think is a bargain, but "it is what it is".
However at the bottom of the bottom of the water tower is a great little spot for conch salad or conch fritters; island favorites. Truly, this was a great little spot, cold beers and fresh conch salad, if you don't drink beer try their Sky Juice. When I was there Jermaine made my conch salad right in front of me; truly the best on the island. Great conversation a couple of laughs and then we were on our way. The next day we returned for lunch and he didn't let me down as I expected. Most places are a tourist trap, but this little place is a find; their prices are fair. Conch salad cost $6.00 and fritters $4.00 and cold beer $3.00 their Sky Juice only $5.00. When you pay some of the prices downtown you'll see what I mean. Truly Just 3 things to do:
1. Walk up the Queens Stairs and listen to the gentlemen at the top give you the history and some insight sometimes unknown.
2. Pay the $1.00 to enter Fincastle and Take a picture or two.
3. Walk over to the bottom of the water tower and enjoy a cold beer with fresh conch salad.
I promise you this will make your day. Enjoy fellow travelers!

Stopped by from the fort. Most interesting thing was the random old school pay phone. Old water tower of cast cement that probably was a big deal when build but not interesting. At least you came for the fort and not the water tower.

Just up from the Queen's Staircase, you should really check this out. We went on May 25th 2005. The tower was closed for repairs, but well worth the trip. Not only is the Water Tower there, but there is a fort and an amazing view of Atlantis and the Cruise ships. I found out about the Water Tower thru my hobby of geocaching, and I hear the view from the top of the tower is amazing. It is worth the trip up there. I promise.

As a kid growing up in Nassau this was always one of my favorite spots to visit. Back then you could a cheap elevator ride to see the most spectacular view of Nassau that a kid could buy.
However, today this historical Bahamian architectural wonder sits in a state of disrepair. It is my hope that it along with the nearby Queens Staircase will someday be returned to their "Glory Days".
For now you can only enjoy this massive white structure against a rich and beautiful blue Bahamian sky from about any point on the island or as you sail away from Nassau Harbor.

Its great to take picture of the tower while visiting the area. Didn't see any entrance to actually go onto the tower however since your already visiting the fort fin castle and queens stair case, add some fun pics. Its spectacular to see and worth seeing but would worth more if you could actually go to the top and see all of Nassau, who knows maybe that will be available soon. Again a Historical site so you should go and see as part of your trip to Nassau.

On our honeymoon last Nov, my husband and I walked around Nassau, seeing all the sights. We went over to the areas where Fort Fincastle, the Queen's Staircase and the Water Tower are. We went to look at the fort first. We then went over to the Water Tower an =d finished at the Staircase. The Water Tower is a large white structure. It had originally been built as a water-supply reservoir in 1928. It is the highest point on the island at 126 feet tall. It was closed for renovations and we weren't allowed to go into it, but it had been opened before as we had read about it in our travel book. It said in there that you could either take a small rickety elevator or a long and winding staircase (about 300 steps) to the top of the tower. The top is suppose to offer one of the finest views on the island. To the North you could see the cruise ship dock, to the South is the capital city of Nassau, to the East lies Paradise Island, and to the West is Cable Beach with all the fancy-colored resort hotels. We would have liked to have been able to go up and see the view but it was good enough to just say that we had seen the Tower itself since would probably be our only trip to the islands.

Back in the 1960's the water tower was decorated for the visit of the Queen of England. The tower had a royal crown placed upon it that lighted up the nights in Nassau for a while and then it was removed. For some reason I can't find any information of this or pictures on any web site. Is there anyone who have pictures of this?
