About
Friendly yellowtails and Sergeant Majors pester divers for food, meaning there's no better way to see the marine life than on the reefs off this island.

Seems to be the place all the boats go too for diving to show off the local marine life and it was worth it. Beautiful array of all kinds of fish, we even got a starfish! Booked a boat trip through out cruiseline so there was no unnecessary haggling on the mainland. Overall a beautiful experience.

The other reviews here are pretty accurate. We did this as a shore excursion from the Norwegian Escape. The water was pretty clear and we saw many small to medium sized reef fish (Parrot Fish, Sergeant Majors, Tangs, Groupers, etc.). The staff was friendly and helpful. The depth and current were not physically challenging. It was very, very crowded because four boats were anchored here, and the water was full of people. I would have rated this "above average" (a 4) if it had not been so crowded.

Booked this excursion last minute on our cruise on the Norwegian Escape for $49 per person.
We were picked up at the pier next to the ship. After a 15 min walk to the spot where the boat would pick us up, we waited about 10 min for the boat to arrive.
The trip to the reef took about 25 min, snorkel gear was in ok condition. Staff was friendly.
There were three other boats next to ours at the reef in front of Atholl Island, lots of people in the water. We were not allowed allowed to swim closer to the island due to the boat traffic. We saw many fish at the reef and close to the boat as one of the staff members fed the fish. Due to the amount of people in the water you had to watch out not to get hit by fins or hands.
During the ride back the guide pointed out several villas that are owned by celebrities. However, the motor was quite loud so that we were not able to hear most of it on the lower deck.
Small snacks and beverages were available for purchase.
For a quick and relatively cheap snorkel trip where you see several fish this was ok, but we would not go back.

I was in Bahamas last Friday as one of my NCL cruise's destination; my eighth time visiting this port! It was raining and we were thinking about staying on the ship but... hey when you have two teens that's not a smart option! So away we go to Athol Island Snorkeling. Last minute excursion, cheap price ($41) and kind of blah...
We have done snorkeling in beautiful places before and we were a little disappoitned when they took us to just one spot, nothing special or interesting but as I said you get what you paid for!
Staff was friendly and they will guide you along the reef, the snorkeling equipment is provided prior to departure and they have drinks for a fee.
We were in shallow water for an hour; the staff brought food for the fishes and kids were able to see some cute fishes and some turtles. On our way back we saw the houses of rich and famous, some pretty views from Atlantis and... that was the end.
I would probably not take this trip in the future. If you are looking for an unforgettable snorkeling adventure I would suggest finding another excursion; and of course that involve a higher excursion price. But if you are looking for something cheap and simple this is an OK trip.

The Athol Island is an uninhabited island near New Providence island. Part of National marine park of Bahamas.
We booked a 2.5 hour tour on our RC cruise for just $39. The boat was in good condition and the staff was friendly and caring; they provided the snorkeling gear.
The snorkeling spot is beautiful and plenty of corals and fish. We saw many parrotishs, sergeant majors, some tangs, groupers and even a needlefish.
On the ride back the boat coasted the shore of Nassau where we saw some beautiful celebritie's houses and villas
Only downside of this trip was the time, but for the price you can't complain. If you love to swim with marine life I recommend to take a longer tour with stops on two or more sonrkeling spots.

Immediately after entering the water we were surrounded by hundreds of Sargent Major fish and some barracuda. The reef is beautiful and easy to snorkel off of a catamaran.

We took a snorkel trip from Nassau. We made one stop near Atholl (also spelled Athol) with some amazing snorkeling. We then made our way to Atholl Island for some lunch, snorkeling and relaxation. The sand was soft and the water was wonderful. This was a secluded spot that was essentially "untouched" for the time being. The views of the blue water and nearby islands was quite serene. The snorkeling off the beach in the shallow water was nice, seeing fish, star fish and even a ray! Nice place to get away from the congestion of downtown Nassau.

We took a tour here and the company we rode on the boat with was phenomenal!
But the worst part was, jet skiing was included with our tour and the older male, with the tiny pony tail and the loooong pinky nails was trash talking the other tourists to us while we were waiting in line. Including saying my husband was a “lucky man because I’m a woman who listens”……….:. Then when it was our turn to go on, the instructions were simply “green button turns on, red button turns off, gas on the right”. After I took off, I went towards this other island we saw on our arrival because I wanted to see the lighthouse closer. He then came zooming over to me and screamed at me “I TOLD YOU NOT TO GO TO THE RIGHT. AND YOU WENT TO THE RIGHT” I said “oh sorry, you didn’t tell me that” as I turned around. He then screamed “I DID TELL YOU THAT, I TELL EVERYONE THAT. HOW DARE YOU TELL ME WHAT I DID AND DID NOT TELL YOU”. (All while waving his fists at me aggressively) And then zoomed away. Truly the most unprofessional and rude person I have dealt with in a long time. He put a very sour taste in my mouth and honestly ruined the Bahamas for me. 0/5

Great time - enjoyed our day on a nice beach with free drinks and snacks. The pigs were so cute and funny. Nice and friendly staff.

Me and my now fiancé went for a quick 4 day getaway for the first time to the Bahamas in September, we just missed the storm
By a few days earlier. We took a jet ski from the RIU where we stayed and went to Atholl island that was recommend to us by one of the staff members at the resort. There my boyfriend popped the question! The island was so pretty surrounded by water, sun and beautiful scenery
Definitely a trip for the books!

Does anyone have information about departure time for this excursion?
Are there several boats that leave different times during the day?

My family will be arriving on the Royal Caribbean Magesty of the Seas on Sat. Oct.22 around 12:00 PM and will depart Nassau around midnight on 10/22. Can you tell me how to book a snorkle trip for 3 adults to Atholl Island or how to get there if we want to come on our own. Thanks,
