Rheilffordd Llyn Tegid (Bala Lake Railway) offers a delightful 9 mile return journey alongside Bala Lake, through the beautiful Snowdonia National Park. Our 2ft narrow gauge steam trains give excellent views of the lake amid its surrounding pastoral and woodland scenery, and of the nearby mountains, Arenig Fawr, Aran Benllyn and Aran Fawddwy. The railway provides an ideal centrepiece for a day’s visit to Bala Lake. The round trip of 1 hour can be broken at any of the stations to enjoy other activities - a pleasant 10 minutes walk into Bala town for shopping or merely browsing. There is access to the lake shore at Llangower station for swimming, fishing or simply lazing by the waterside.

A delightful little railway through lovely scenery. Free parking and dog friendly. And a great collection of Hunslet engines!

A nice line but best to go before trees break into leaf. Will have to re visit when extension to bala is complete. Car park can be chaotic. Allow time to park

Delightful narrow gauge railway that takes you along side lake Bala. The Station is kept in its original form and sets the tone for the whole journey. I am in no way as a rail enthusiast but was charmed by the whole experience. The enthusiasm...More

The staff were all great and the opportunity to see the signal box added something. The history of the engines was interesting and impressive. Probably better for younger children as the journey is relatively short. The only thing we would say is that we found...More

Had a very pleasant time riding up the track (approx 4 miles) following the shore of lake Bala. Friendly staff showed us around including the signal box, and a little background info as we travelled. Nice to see little pieces of history like this continued,...More

Take this steam train from either end of the lake as it gently meanders along between the lake edge and adjoining countryside. Although wet it was still a great way to spend an afternoon. Facilities at Bala are virtually non existent so go to Llanuwchllyn...More

Great views of the lake and surrounding countryside. Kids loved it. Well worth doing even on a rainy day. But: 1) Pathway from road to the platform on Bala side is wholly inadequate. Very muddy and narrow. Dispute with landowner apparently. 2) Café food is...More

4 of us enjoyed the lake railway trip from Bala to Llanuwchllyn in Sunday afternoon. The train was great and we had a chat with the man running the original Victorian signal box too. Catching the train from Bala you just wait in a bus...More
