And we had a private guide to take us on a walk-through it. It was really nice and if you like watching birds, this is definitely one to do. There’s so many different birds and sounds.Visited January 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 4 February 2024

A sky tram slowly gliding through the rainforest with a very knowledgeable guide. Great to get a different perspective up in the tree canopy.
The little walk through the small garden after was a nice touch.
The guided walk through the forest wasnt too strenuous or long but hot.

We did the aerial tram and really enjoyed it. The driver picked us up from our resort, he was very friendly and made the journey interesting, pointing out things along the way. When we got to the rainforest we found it very organised and the staff were knowledgeable and helpful. We were directed to use the restrooms which were nice and clean. Our guide Prince was brilliant. The team was very relaxing and a great way to see the detail of the forest, we saw so many different trees and plants plus some beautiful hummingbirds. The view from the top was magnificent.

A great excursion tip for the whole family. We were in the park for 4 hours and the time flew by. Be sure to book the excursion with the ziplining. Here you swing from tree to tree 8 times. Apart from birds, there were no animals to see, as the parrots unfortunately no longer show themselves once the park opens, but only in the morning.

I wasn't sure about doing this as it seemed a bit.... well.... middle-aged. Even though I AM middle-aged I like to think I'm down with the kids.
Our cruise ship docked at Castries and we chose not to do the ship's tour as it left earlier than suited us. We wandered through the cruise terminal where we found a local taxi driver who took us to the rainforest for $75 (about £50). Our taxi journey was about 45 minutes each way and although initially our driver was quiet (shy I guess) he began to open up and tell us some really interesting things about the island, the politics, employment situation and such like and all the time we were climbing towards the rain forest with the most fantastic views. We paid 388 Eastern Caribbean dollars for two tickets to the tram ride, which is about £95.
The tram ride itself was far more beautiful than I could have imagined. Perhaps not advisable for someone who is scared of heights but I absolutely loved the feeling of skimming above the forest canopy with hummingbirds zipping above our heads. We even saw a parrot soaring above us. At the highest point you can stand up in the gondola and there is the most incredible view. Our gondola guide was so knowledgeable about the flora and fauna it was humbling. There is no way you would be able to see everything we saw by touring the rain forest on foot and no way you could get that amount of information from a guide book so in my opinion this was well worth the money (and not at all middle-aged).
P & O offer the same trip for £72 per person which works out just about the same as we paid so you won't save money by going it alone but you'll be able to go at your own pace.

Unless you are either a very young child or a very elderly/arthritic/obese adult do not book a rainforest 'hike' with the Palm Services tour group. This was sold to us (and not cheaply) as a four hour hike through the rainforest. We are not fitness fanatics, and are if anything both slightly chubby, and so we anticipated that we'd break a sweat and burn off some of the breakfast buffet we'd gobbled before departure. We spent the first 2 hours collecting other guests, and then over an hour waiting in a building for a guide to appear. When she did appear she was dressed for the 'hike' in a sundress and plastic pumps to guide us slowly around what was less than a square kilometre of rainforest, largely on a tarmacked track. This is not a hike in any sense. At best this could be described as a nature trail, though some of the 'facts' that she gave us about the plant life that we saw were dubious at best. This included pointing out a plant that was 'good for cancer, particularly type B and type C cancer'. As a qualified medical doctor I had to bite my tongue so hard that I'm surprised I didn’t damage it. Throughout the 'hike' a van, that was full of backpacks belonging to people who were doing a cycling tour, kept following us for stretches along the track. The drivers were clearly friends of our guide and were enjoying playing super amusing practical jokes such as pretending to run us over by driving at us quickly and then breaking. They found it hilarious. We didn't. The tour lasted for 55minutes and ended at a waterfall, which was the only part of the morning worth doing. Fortunately the accelerate/break van wasn't able to follow us in.
When we returned to our hotel we politely explained our disappointment to the staff at the booking office. They kindly offered to contact Palm Services. After listening to a debate between a Palm Services representative and the booking office I was given the phone to speak to the Palm Services Manager. I explained our disappointment at 1) the long wait in the building 2) the lack of 'hike' 3) some of the strange anecdotes about the natural world that we had listened through 4) the antics with the accelerate/break van. I asked for some of my money back. After debating the length of the wait in the building and the short duration of the hike with me she agreed to look into this and call back. She didn't call back so we tried to contact her again. She didn't answer our calls from our hotel for the next five days. We were forced to give up as we were leaving to return home. So utterly unprofessional. Do not book anything with this company.

We visited the rain forest for just something to do, but it ended up being one of the best trips we went on.
We went for the ziplining and lift that takes you up through the rainforest. The ziplining itself was fun, and not scary at all. The guides were extremely professional, friendly, and informative about the rainforest, especially considering they are paid so little.
Going through the rainforest on the lift was fantastic - we saw many different species of trees and birds, as well as termites and tarantulas! We also got fantastic views of St Lucia from the air, which saved us having to go up in the helicopter.
Overall I'd recommend this trip for anyone. Remember to wear appropriate clothing if you do this trip though - shorts or trousers and trainers. And remember it rains in the rainforest! Short and sharp bursts of tropical rain!

Picked up from hotel and after a couple more pick ups we headed inland. Once we arrived at the rainforest we were divided into Zip Wire and Ariel Tram, no hard hats for us:-)
We were given our ticket, one for the ride and one for a free drink for after (a way of getting you into the shop).
We were put on the Tram in order of weight so that the Tram doesn't sway, much to the pleasure of two in our group who were scared of heights. It worked beautifully and our guide, Denise, sat at the back.
The Tram its self is silent, it is like being up in a ballon but even quieter!
A photo is taken just as you start off which they show you digitally at the end if you wish to purchase it.
Denise gave us information during the trip, I have no idea how long it too, which shows that I was engrossed.
At the top you go around and come back and the cabin at the top has someone in all the time the Trams run!
The views are amazing, you can see for miles.
At the end of the Tram ride we were offered a small Forest walk, we were the only two to take it up and the others headed back to the shop.
It was fascinating, the seeds that could kill you, others that could heal. Denise gave us some much information and we were both asking lots of questions. The fallen tree was amazing to see, I have included a picture.
We finished with the free drink and waited for the adrenaline junkies.
Guess the only negative thing was the screams from the Zip Wire people, other wise it would have been very peaceful.
Toilet were ok, lots of them too.
Taken back to our hotel the opposite way so that the first picked up where the first dropped off which I thought was nice. We also got to see more of the Island and other hotels.
I highly recommend this half day trip.

How bad were the insects?
Did you get bit?
How big was the "cage" people ride in?

We travel fairly often to the Carribean and don’t get to bothered. Can’t be to much worse than DC. We usually either use those ‘bands’ you wear around your ankle/wrist or there is these ‘sticker’ type things you can get (both from Amazon) as we are not a lot for the sprays unless in really bad area. Just be aware of things like dusk, swampy areas and the such. Hope this helps. Enjoy your Vaca wherever you go as life is to short to worry about a few insects!

Is there a charge to hike/walk through the rain forest. Charge for guides, if needed. Thank you. Joan

I'll be traveling with 9 family members for my 80th birthday. Are reservations required for the tree-top tram and what is the cost? Any time of the day for special discounts? Also, it looks like there is a lot to do in St. Lucia. Would welcome all suggestions. Thank you.
