Do take the time to walk around the village and sample some food and drinks that you will find in all kinds of places. Especially try Tasty Bay just opposite the bus stop.Good prices, good food.
Do not swim from this beach. It needs a lot of cleaning up and improvement.
Very friendly people.

Canaries is one of the six fishing villages in St Lucia. While I was staying at a guesthouse in Soufriere, I caught the bus to Castries, and on the bus was an elderly (70's) woman from Canaries who was leaving Soufriere from getting her medication and going back home to Canaries. She was the most friendly woman. We chatted on the minibus for a while, and then she got off the minibus in Canaries. For many years, there was no main road in/out of Canaries and many of its residences had to take a water taxi/boat to Anse la Raye fishing village to take the road into the capital of Castries. But now, that has changed and there the main road when the minibus stops. I stopped in Canaries once more when I was on Cosol Tours, and we got fresh baked warm local bread and cheese. Canaries is a nice place to see to get an idea of local fishing village life.

Canaries is a quite peaceful village on the outskirts of St.lucia . I enjoyed my time there the people our very welcoming to visitors to there small village. while I was there I experienced a thing called Creole pot and local music and entertainment the foods are home grown and taste wonderful. Canaries and St.lucia was a great experience I would like to visit again very soon.

This was one of the stops on this 7 hr tour. This fishing village is just a street full of poor street vendors who wait for the tour buses to stop. The town is very depressed and clearly counts on tourism more than fishing. We only spent 5-10 min there, and that was more than we needed!

A lot of the caribbean Islands are similar, the difference is how built up the area is and the locals. The roads are smooth in St.Lucia and Canaries has colourful little houses, we stopped off at a little place called The View and took some pictures of the village.

A poster informed me that Canaries is also known as 'Kanawe' , on the West Coast of St. Lucia and means Amerindian cooking, founded in the 18th Century by the French, in 2005 the population was 1,862 and in the 1960's was only accessible by boat as there was no road transport.

Something about this little town just felt so familiar. It is so quaint and almost seems to step out of another time. While life is lived outside and on the street throughout the tropics, in Canaries this seems even more true. Perhaps because the streets are so narrow and everyone's house door opens right onto the road. When you're driving through town you almost feel like you are driving through someone's living room.

Stopped here on an island tour . Very colourful homes line the streets of this village . Very photogenic area , although the residents didn’t seem to get any economic benefit from our visit.
