1700s stone fort, needs informative plaques
I visited Fort Frederick as part of a shore excursion for a cruise. This fort was built by the French and the British in the 1700s. The fort overlooks St. George’s harbor and the city below, so visitors can see some pretty views. I walked around the grounds on my own, and I felt interested in seeing the stone walls and stairwells. I saw an unfinished, hand-painted sign that mentioned some information about the fort, and I would have appreciated more informative signs.

    Nickname: The Backwards Facing Fort
Our last stop in Granada was at Fort Frederick. If you climb the stairs to the top you can see all around the city and it would be a great place to proect the harbour from. It withstood the Rebellion of 1795 and became the headquarters of the People's Revolutionary Army during the Granada Revolution from 1979-83.

    Stunning views.
Well worth a visit to appreciate the views, both over the town and inland. The town views encompass the new government house, the harbour and the town itself. Views inland give Mountain Views and were the direction the guns were directed. Fort is worth a wander giving an idea of the fortifications on the island and indeed the region. There are toilets!

    Visit the fort.
If you an historian like myself this is a must even if you just get to touch the canons. It is currently under repair and restoration so you are unable to enter the fort itself. It is at the top of a steep climb of steps but the view is well worth it.

We visited the fort right before closing. There was a wedding taking place with the harbor in the background and a storm coming in over the mountains. The fort is somewhat preserved (especially when compared to its neighbor, Fort Matthew). Great views of the harbor and the rainforest. There are almost no explanations, so if you want to know more about the fort you should get a guide.

Given the fort's prominent position overlooking the town and harbor, the views are really nice. However, not much else historical can be derived from visiting the fort unless you get a guide. There are rest rooms outside the fort.

Make sure you include Fort Frederick in your tour. Fabulous views of the area before leaving the area for the rainforest. You can spend at least 20 minutes at Fort Frederick checking out the town and looking at some of the buildings still not fixed after the hurricane of 2017.

As someone who was born in Grenada but not raised their, I knew the basics of the history of my country. While visiting with friends we fort Fredrick’s was in the the list of to do and the tour didn’t disappoint, our tour guide was Sophia she was so young but extremely educated on the historical facts. She had our attention from start to finish and even quizzed us at the end of the tour, she made the experience just great.

Great views! It is an old Fort and the friendly guides tell you the story of the Fort and of quite a number of the other landmarks that you can see from the Fort. You get truly panoramic views so you can basically see half of the island. It's gorgeous! The story of the Fort itself was interesting, especially the tunnels. There are a few steps/inclines but its not a far walk.

Great trip to Fort Frederick - easy to get to in a hire car and small entrance fee ECD 5.25. Stunning views of St George's, Grand Anse and the interior towards Grand Etang an My Qua Qua. Well maintained and full of history.
A must for pictures alone!

Fort Frederick was was started by the French in 1779 and completed by the British in 1791, after the island changed hands. The ruins are interesting, but there is not a lot to see here. The views of St. George's are magnificent, though.
